Its a good read even thought i dont have a PS3, but i have experienced the red rings of death on my Xbox a few years back.

I've had one PS3 die, my xbox still hasn't though not that I care for either.

My 2009 Ps3 is still going strong tbh.. although I havent played a game on it since Uncharted 3. I use it every night to watch downloaded farscape via USB stick :P

I've had 4 die on me, and amazingly InfiniteStates still has the original emotion PS3 and it still works.
But I guess placement and room temperatures might make just enough of a difference long term.

Yeah I retired my launch 60gb last year sometime and bought 320gb slim. It got a lot of use, but I suspect the HD was failing... It still works though and probably either needs the disk clean up utility running or the HD replacing entirely.
