(bonus points if you can tell me the symbol on the mug to the right of the box  )

The Xperia P is supposed to sit in the middle of the Xperia range between the U and S, the box presentation is nice, plenty of bits in to keep you amused, the charger is an odd one, its a USB block type but to keep it compact the earth pin actually pulls up and away from the main body, clever but a possibly liability? i could see some unfortunate snapping it easy, also the usb port is on the side of the "block" eh? thats a bit of bad design, if its in a row of plugs or a standard domestic twin wall socket it could potentially interfere with others but ill see how i go on with it. According to the blurb on the box the phone has a fast charge 10 min = 60 min of talk time, lets see how we go with that too because smart phones are rubbish when it comes to battery power in my opinion but i grew up with the likes of a nokia 3210....

a Mini HDMi to HDMi connector is thoughtfully included as the phone can connect to a HD TV or monitor, also this will allow me to connect my tablet now too as ive been too lazy to go to maplin to procure one.

I'm also surprised and pleased to see a screen protector included! yes i know its a bit of plastic but its a nice thought!

it also includes something called "xperia smart tags" i have absolutly no idea what these are, some sort of RFID tag maybe, ill come back to you on that one, but it seems the phone has the ability to read them, here is a vid to it looks kinda neat! i wonder if it actually makes calls, im also interested in some software that comes with it, ive not looked into it properly yet but it seems like management software, which if true is great, i loved the nokia pc suite, was a great way of managing things.

Anyway the phone looks very nice, feels well made and lighter than my outgoing HTC Desire MK1 probably down to the Aluminium unibody. you cannot get at the battery though which peturbs me a bit.

so far its good! nice screen works well, im just updating it now via the pc management software which seems pretty good too, has a utility to move over my contacts regardless of previous model, sweet! just updating it now

one minor quibble, no memory card slot! surprised i missed that, also the micro SIM card was a pain to put in, but im hamfisted.... bah...

well updating it was a bit of a sod, the suggested management software from sony didnt work that well, the phone and the software inisted there was a update available but when it came to uploading it onto the phone it said one was unavailable, so after a quick search i discovered if you have trouble with that to try Sony Software Updater:

http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/ seemed a bit more straightforward too, that doesnt mean to say the management software is redundant, need to investigate it furthur

Phone: meh it's a sony. But they do make good looking phones, and this is an android, so maybe it's not meh after all.
Software: OMG you actually use that stuff?

I haven't used any software that came with a phone for 10 years, and that was a 9210 (I think) and only because you could send flashing txt messages with it.

Nokia PC suite was actually very good i thought daz, send text messages with your pc, backup contacts etc v handy during the symbian daze....

so far im loving it, the ICS update has not made any performance updates but its quite slick, getting used to it as somethings have moved around a bit as it uses the default Android GUI wheras my HTC had HTC sense.
