It's not - it's a one time full price payment on PSN. And you get all the DLC free at the same time as EVE players.

Not related, but a dev interview...

Mental.
A "pretty-old" map of EVE Online's solar system was shown (it's huge), showing each of the game's numerous Alliances ("super-groups" of allied players, around 1000-5000 players, each) and their controlled territories. It was explained that a relatively weak Alliance called Stain (comprised primarily of Nordic and French gamers), kept attacking a much more powerful Alliance (primarily Russians), despite repeated defeats. It was only after the Russian alliance dispatched spies that they discovered that the Stain Alliance was being funded by a third Alliance (of American players). Upon discovering this, the Russians blocked the trade route between the two conspiring factions. It's these same types of player-created (and driven) objectives that will inform the action in Dust 514, albeit on a planetary level.
Even in games the French lose and suffice with ze resistance =))

Yesterday in eve our corp fell out with a industry corp and they also blocked our routes, if we go in there we get attacked so..it's not good lol.

On another note new patch today for eve INCARNA 1.0 - pretty big deal - and the servers have been down ALL DAY so far.

@Daz: Dust 514, by all accounts, will have PS3 players fighting these battles for the Eve players at the planetary level. In a BF2142 style. If it has walkers, I may just cream a little.

@Sy: I think the Incarna patch gives you all bodies so you can wander round stations and shit no? That sounds pretty major.

At this price point, based on videos I've seen, this could well be excellent value for money...
CCP's upcoming PS3-exclusive MMOFPS Dust 514 will require a $10-$20 "cover charge" before you can start playing, CEO Hilmar Veigar Petursson has told GamesIndustry.biz . You'll then receive the equivalent amount of money in in-game credits.

"You're really getting the game for free but you have to pre-buy credits in the beginning. We might go fully free-to-play down the line, but in the beginning we have a cover charge just to manage the initial launch of it," Petursson said.

"We have always been a big believer in growing up a social network behind the game in a slow and predictable way. Because we have seen that if you don't do that you can end up with a very unstructured experience, where there's no cohesion to the community. By growing it at the beginning we help to make a healthy environment initially."

Players in Dust 514 will affect the world of EVE Online, CCP's long-running and well-respected space MMO, and vice-versa. It was revealed to be a PS3 (and Vita) exclusive during Sony's E3 press conference this year.

Dust is still on track to release in Spring 2012 via PSN. Evidently, the initial download will be free.

It's a deliberately ironic juxtaposition of anti-consumerism and the epitome of commercialism.

Sony and CCP are in negotiations over the micro transactions for Dust 514.
So good news then, the majority of coding must be done and the game is getting ready for advanced alpha/beta testing?
With it being such a vast game, maybe the official beta testers will get a go first?

Taken from: joystick
DUST 514 is somewhat revolutionary in that it's attempting to tie together two separate games (on two separate platforms) that take place in the same fictional universe. CCP is also innovating on the backend according to a new article at Develop.

The upcoming EVE Online MMOFPS tie-in will establish universal PlayStation Network microtransaction rules according to CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson. Petursson told Develop that the ongoing CCP/Sony negotiations will ultimately result in the establishment of price tiers for virtual items as well as the revenue split between Sony and third-party devs.

CCP is also exploring retail options for DUST 514, despite early reports that the title would only be available as a digital download. Finally, Petursson tells Develop that the PlayStation Vita version of DUST will "give people access to more asynchronous parts of the game." While he doesn't commit one way or the other, it's possible that the portable version of the game will connect to both the PlayStation 3 and PC versions via EVE's universal ISK currency.
