LOL if you're dependent on a train, it's understandable - a lock in at work on Friday is not an appealing prospect. Luckily, I'm chucking a sickie :)

people forget this country endured two proper long bad winters 1 just shortly after world war 2 when the country was still a bomb site and 2nd in the 60s

people got on with it then. people ARE going soft.

It's nuts! Literally just a few inches of snow and the UK is effectively closed.
If we had one of those hard winters now we'd be fucked. Hell if we had a regular winter from 30 years ago we'd be fucked.

Schools would only close if:
1. If the heating system broke down
2. The heating system ran out of oil.
3. If teachers couldn't get to school, and like us, they lived locally and they walked. So this didn't happen much.

We used to walk the one and half mile to school each day even in 2 feet deep snow.

Granted airports always had a problem, but between snow showers they'd try to operate as normal and try and clear a backlog.
Trains didn't stop unless there was a risk of the snow banks falling onto the lines, and most trains in winter has ploughs on the front and would just slow down a bit.

It's pathetic how far we've lost skills and ability to get to and from work. Dad used to carry extra fuel for the car and blankets, and a shovel! If he got stuck he'd either walk home or if need be stay in the car, and I don't remember a time he stayed in the car.

This nation has lost it's pluck and CAN DO attitude that made it great.

Complainers gonna complain.

And there is always something to complain about because even if there is nothing to complain about they can complain about having nothing to complain about :-\

I like complaining. If there was nothing to complain about, I'd have nothing to say.
