Ive just gotten Mass Effect 1 and ive discovered what i believe to be a big game breaking problem. as an rpg you need to rummage round and collect all the odds and sods you can, somethings you cant get at because they are locked away, simple you can bypass them, however the hacking mini game is horrifically broken
the game simply involves pressing the triangle, square, X or O button in the same sequence as whats on screen. but you have nano seconds to do it in. and if you fail? fuck off trying again you are not allowed, you have to break down other inventory items into a substance that allows you to open the lock
fucking wank! anyone who knows Rpg's or mass effect knows you need to rummage in lockers everywhere for good stuff, whats the fucking point in playing the game now if i cant even get past what is supposedly an easy decrypt?
game breaker imho

well annoyingly. changing it to game mode seems to have worked. also some people suggest opening and closing the minigame a few times before attempting it to force the buttons to synchronise, odd that

I've still not got around to 3 yet. I gather 1 is the most RPGish of the lot, so I will probably skip it... Just no time, and I won't be able to resist the triple plat.

oh gawd very RPGish
pickup stuff, sell, equip, breakdown into medigel etc.
if you just play ME2 and use the interactive comic you will do fine! and the actual gameplay isnt as good as the others in fact it was VASTLY improved in my opinion

It's rarely a good idea to go backwards through a franchise - gameplay evolutions are generally for the better
