Well Daz, there's nothing wrong with you. I think it's related to your current state of mind that you start to wonder if there's more to it than what we have now. I've been there as well and when your head is fucked not even games can keep your mind off of it.

Back to topic.
I don't think the gaming industry is dying, it's just lacking a hell lot of innovation. With innovation I don't mean WII/Kinect bullshit. That's not innovation but down right retarded.

What I mean is. All games that brag with having these never seen before features, possibilities and new ways to play, they all lean so heavily on those gimmick mechanics that the whole game will feel bland. Able to do a super cool kill move for example is nice, but after you've done them on every single bad guy in the room, you've kind of lost the whole purpose of that super awesome feature. Not to mention most trailers show of a lot of features that the game will include but after playing said game, those features are the only thing that make the game somewhat enjoyable. It's like having a cherry on a cake but every cake you eat after that point has the same cherry. Doesn't help we're being hold back by years old consoles. You can only cramp so many retarded gimmicks in a game and we've come at a point where that's the only viable thing to do to make a game sell well. If those consoles would just fuck off and get a bloody upgrade we would see so much more in terms of possibilities.

I agree with White. There is absolutely no motivation. Everything in today's world is just rinsed and repeated over and over, and consistently shoved down your throat. DayZ rant incoming.

I'd like to think DayZ blew up so fucking fast because it was the first of its kind, the paragon of its genre. No one had ever done anything on this level before. But the popularity was a double edged blade. Not only did this cause CoD fanboys to flood the gates of our beloved game, but Rocket had to appeal to the masses, just like any good game developer would.

I personally still love DayZ, it has and will always have a special place in my heart. I just feel as if the Arma 2 engine and the Arma capabilities can't cope with the traffic/hackers/expectations that they can put out, and in turn, caused the great diaspora of players that we are seeing now.

I for one am ecstatic for the stand alone DayZ. I have no doubt in my mind that it can and will thrive.

You just find more things exciting and engaging when you are young.. its simple. I find the older I get , the more I cant be bothered to finish games. I think Whites point is spot on.
