FINALLY an update lads!
well i've finally gotten a report back from the engineer, the old TV is FUBAR. the PSU inverter is buzzing too loudly in his opinion and it appears the processor is on the way out (yup processors in TV's, told you rise of the machines!)
so i have to return it to argos as its uneconomical to repair, current deal i have with argos is they will pay X amount towards a new tv from an argos, a value they calculated the tv to be currently worth, more on that later.
so for now im stuck trying to figure out what idiot box to get from them, thanks to respawn i discovered that sharp tv on offer
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... w:sharp:tv
but its 40in, whats wrong with that you may say? well i think 40in is way to big for my living room, i dont want the tv to overpower everything else in the room. here is the old 37in for comparison

personally i think thats big enough
the only other 37in argooooos sell that i think is a worthy replacement is this LG:
http://tinyurl.com/csyhyux
now without trying to be a brand snob i've never owned a sharp, but i know LG make the majority of LCD panels, in fact my pc monitor is an LG one with built in tuner and its been pretty good.
i know it seems like a no brainer get a bigger tv for less money but i really dont want it to be overpowering.
i await your opinions and abuse

i dont think a 40 would be too big, and too overpowering.,
I was worried my 42 would do the same, but it just goes perfect.
You can nicly get that 40 in there and it look good and not out of place

Don't forget the dimensions are measured diagonally, so that 5 inches really isn't that much at all.
We've got 2 identical LG 42" LCD TV's in this house, and the image quality is impeccable. I just wish I had the extra cash and gone for SMART TV's, but they were out of my league at that time.
I use mine for nearly 16 hours a day, it's connected to my PC, so 42" PC gaming in 1080p is delish! Plus all the HD films I download look purtty too.
It's also connected to my Sky HD box and my PS3 (Component), HDMI from my PS3 goes to my 3D TV. (cheap ass sainsburys tv that was on special offer).

Is it because it turns its self off after 4 hours?YorkshirePud wrote:thing is thought dave having read the reviews of the sharp im thinking it might not be suitable! have a butchers.
My TV does it and so does the one before it,

Nope dunno if I mentioned it before but the engineer thinks the processor is fucked and the psu is on its way out apparently Samsung are known for this
Afraid I think I'll be going for the 37 lads a 40in takes overhangs my cabinet according to my dimensions.

bit of a snag in the proceedings not one argos in the area seems to have the tv in stock, which is somewhat annoying as i want to get i boxed off this week. i could live without a big tv for another month or so but i just want this whole affair sorted, shame i cant say to them, you dont appear to have a suitable replacement so cash please so i can fuck you off and go to john lewis....

We have a near conclusion to this epic saga! (tv rights are available)
spoke to a nice chap in our local argos who worked out all they could give me back was £261 i said i wasnt quite happy with this as basically he was saying the tv had nearly halved in value. this was the best he could do unfortunately but because argos didnt have a suitable replacement also he would refund this back to me CASH, with the engineers fee bringing it to £286 which is near as damn £300
getting cash back was an offer i couldnt turn down as it didnt tie me to argos im free now to go and get a new TV from anywhere
