Had an argument with someone earlier they posted this:

Ok GM foods is not something i will support by choice, however to sustain food in our culture, we need it, not just gm food, but animal meat in general.. most people reading this have eaten a modified food either a cabbage from the supermarket which might have been modfied to grow quicker or a chicken piece in some ingredient somewhere.
What bothers me is people especially vegi's will go off on one saying things like eating animals is wrong, whether gm'd or just normal.
The thing is in the article above, these are food animals, not a pet, not a cared for animal, produced only to make food, why is this bad?
Todays society as a whole cannot live on lettuce and carrots because there just isn't enough for the entire world.
The worst thing for me is alot of self-proclaimed veggies are hypocrites because many of them will eat fish or a product which has come from a animal somewhere down the line, people who use soaps and nice smelly perfumes probably got some whale blubba in it somewhere down the production route.
And many other examples, but for now this will do.
SO why can they do this but frown at people who eat meat?
In the 1700's we lived no more than about 40 years old, in our recent times we can live on average to 80, i think food and better quality of life is much a reason why we do.
Living on corn and wheat like the old days was never going to be the answer.
EVERYONE at some point ate a GM food, to complain about it is fucking retarded.
massive argument about veggies & meat eaters.

Ask them if they've ever eaten orange (regular carrots), they used to be green or purple, they were GM'd because people thought kids would like them more in that colour.
I don't like the idea of frenkenfood, but in all honesty it's damn near impossible not to eat them, not unless you're growing your own from heirloom seeds.
Do we need GM food to feed the world?
Nope, GM food it's just another form of control. (Yeah yeah, you know I'm a sceptic). The reality is that you don't know what's been added to the food, and we have to trust those who make it. One problem is that you need long term studies to clarify that there are no problems, and I mean LIFETIME studies. Also how do you prevent cross-pollination if there is a problem? You can't and it might be too late already.
One company in particular is like a rabid dog about this: Monsanto, they will sell their seeds to farmer X, but farmer Y's fields are next door, and they cross-pollinate. But farmer Y now has genes from monsanto seed. Monsanto send out private investigators to check local farmers crops for those genes, then sue them if they find them, and they will eventually find them.
There's plenty of land available to grow crops, just look around you, if society collapsed and you HAD no choice but to grow your own, where would you grow crops?
Back Garden
front garden
wasteland
common grassland
in reality, any where you can.
1 acre of land used to feed 12 people, with modern agriculture it feeds 26. So even using the old styles, with crop rotation and not using pesticides, you can still feed 12 people per acre.
It's a shame you didn't put this up for Question of the week #2
