yup my idiot box has finally packed in, and its not even 4 years old, what a load of crap, and how daft it is these days TV's have to "boot up"

the symptoms are if you go to turn it on from standby you hit the appropriate button the Power LED should blink on and off a few times and a chime occurs then the tv comes on

now the LED just blinks on and off then goes off and nothing happens Evil or Very Mad to be frank this has been getting worse over time, what ive noticed is turning it off at the mains and leaving it for a bit sometimes work but it hasnt been on all day, even though ive tried.

investigation on the web seems to suggest bad capacitors on the Power supply board, im certainly confident to take it apart and see if it is put soldering new ones on is a job for my pal joe.

however Why should I have to do it? surely samsung should be damn well sorting it out?

any advice would be appreciated

you could probably claim a replacement on the 6 year soga clause where the retailer and manufacturer must of sold you an item fit for use within the period.
If you got an engineers report of the problem the place you got it from can either fix it, replace it or part-refund you.

That's all i remember of the top of my head pud.

We claimed for a sony stereo system which was a great system, then the volume just packed in, the report we got was "manufacturing fault" and got it replaced.

google SOGA and 6 year replacement - you'll find summit.

Yep the more expensive the item the longer it should last, in some cases upto 7 years. I think the threshold for that is £1,000
At least thats what I was told at PCW when a case came up.

You'll need to go to the small claims court (used to be £100) with said engineers report.

how much did you pay for it and how long have you had it?

well i have spoken to argos and had a brief albeit friendly chat with a helpful lady, argos agree that 2 years is not acceptable time for the tv to last without developing a fault

i have a reference number but now the onus is on me to prove its broken, so ive got to pay for a tv engineer to check it out

if its wear and tear then its tough shit i have to stump up for the engieers check

but if its faulty argos will refund me the cost of the engineers check and give me so much back for the tv. i found this acceptable.

ill let you know how i get on, getting the tv checked saturday

you don't need a small clains court what u on daz lol :P
It affects his statutory rights.

What will happen is the engineer will deem it faulty.
You'll get that refunded and part refund or even a replacement if u push the limits.

I'd like your opinion also guys, if the TV can be fixed should i get it fixed? if its say only a few more quid?

bearing in mind that argos want to give me about half the £400 back that means im looking at spending almost another 200 quid again to get another tv. looking at it this way im still out of pocket.

i said to Argos customers services i was ok with that figure but now i think of it i would have said no because what they are saying is the tv has lost half its value in 2 years?

Also look at this reply on another forum im in, see what the guy says and amusingly he works for richer sounds and previously worked for John Lewis's
The whole SOGA thing is rubbish, out of the 12 month period, there is no guarantee, that's why people offer their own.
Argos are being nice to you, either because they want to, or they have had lots of people complaining about that range of tv's going faulty.
If you like the tv, just get if fixed. If not, get some money and buy a newer one (if from me though, get the guarantee/ don't shout SOGA if it goes wrong :D

First thing you need to do is to get a price for repair and take it from there.
It might be more for a quote than the repair itself.

well i feel like i can trust the fella i took it too, he seems nice, doesnt come over as a cowboy and it seems like he has seen this before so maybe its an easy repair

i dunno. to be honest i could really do with not having to shell out another £100 for a tv.

The fault you explain in the TV,
soi d exactly like what happened to ashes TV.

He ended up having a engineer repair the TV.
Just replaced a part. Said this X component only has an expectation of 3,500 hours or 35,000 hours I cannot remember well.

He did pay around 90-100 tho
