Over the past month or two I've read a lot of rumours about the PS4, especially about how some Devs have got their hand on some early test units.

While it might be true, and it might be true that Sony are planning a release next Autumn, what isn't rumoured are the machine specs. No doubt they'll be released nearer the launch date.

So once again I'm talking about the absolute essentials, what must the PS4 have to make you interested?

Blu-Ray drive is a given.

RAM: 1GB?
500GB Hard drive?
512mb of graphical RAM?
Dual Cell Processors?

Realistically what does it need?

1. full backwards compatability with the PS3 and 1080p upscaling.
2. upto date GPU - not a full 12months behind like the PS3. *
3. Exact same joypad
4. Better soldering!

*The oringal PS3 would have had an upto date GPU, but due to blu-ray manufacturing problems the PS3 launch was delayed by nearly 18months.

Personally i think Specs are irrelevant,
With today setup in hardware, The combination is endless.

You can look at a machine with pretty low specs
and look at a machine with higher specs.

The Lower spec machine can easlly outwit the higher end machine,
All pending on how the hardware in bonded with one another.

People always jump to the assumption for an example: that a Phone with a 1.8 Ghz processes is better than a 0.8 ghz processes.

Suppose a easy was to reword is the higher the value in numbers does not always means higher performance,

IPV6 Compatable, With a GB Network Adaptor.
Possible NTFS Support, (But makes piracy 200x easier if hacked)

Solder you will never see improvements on sadley,
The only way to overcome solder like that is to mix it with a Toxic chemical, Actually i think its led.
Makes it much stronger, and less brittal to expending and contracting.
But you will never see a factory using such a thing.

Way forward would be silicon, Not Solder,
Its a higher conductor too from what i picked up on, But its new Technology so you wont see it any time soon,

Primarily a gaming machine, a new console will need:

ram 1gb or plus, really todays games on a pc require min 2gb
a decent gpu, at least 512 but really they need to look at 1gb..

They need to get it right.

I think they will stick to the current cpu from ps3 but somesort of updated version, if not they need to go intel lol.

I'm not sure about the current Cell, has it really been pushed to breaking point?

But being fully scalable two or more Cells are more than possible.

Is anyone actually ready for the Ps4?

Imagine BF3/Bad Company 2 with 32/48/64 player servers and running at 1080p.

Or is the economy the deciding factor here?

The reason we have 24 players has nothing to do with PS3 hardware but rather the average internet bandwidth available to Sony customers.

LOL it's nothing to do with bandwidth and everything to do with memory contraints.

Yes Daz you are right, this is why hit detection was moved client side in BF3 obviously because there is not enough memory on PS3.

What? So moving hit detection to the client is going to help bandwidth?

How about Xbox, do they have more bandwidth?

How, exactly, is the internet worse for PS3 than PC? Please, educate us further, oh knowledgeable one...

Think killzone is on about why players are capped at 24.
Dice explained in the forums some time ago.

It is not only the hardware that is restricting the player count, its the bandwidth restrictions that XBL and PSN use to keep the costs down. Sending all the information from 64 different consoles going through XBL or PSN combined with the lighting and destruction and everything else uses far to much upload and download for the companies to pay for, so they 'cap' the bandwidth that the games can use. So it's not just because of the hardware that the player limit has remained at 24.
On top of this the look at the UK lowest speeds.. which doesn't help.

They said that if they dropped destruction they would be able to sync lots more data and support lots more players.
Until they can create something in the engine that is streamlined and able to display and show everything going on in the game - it will remain at 24.
An idle game of bfbc2 for example is 123kbs, peakes over 170 when the game is going.

this is from xbl dev network for game bandwidth:

Also the QA guy who we speak to on EA forums about freezing and voice comm issues admitted that map size in bfbc1 and bfbc2 was retricted by hardware and bandwidth limits imposed by console platforms.
He also said that the new frostbite would be more streamlined to allow bigger maps at the cost of destruction (which u see today in bf3)

A game which is static like cod, mag etc, have hardly any bandwidth issues, nothing moves, not alot gets calculated apart from bullets/damage.
A huge problem in older bf games is freezing, it's alot to do with packet loss and memory issues.

On top of this, we are also limited on updates due to xbl title update restrictions and it's why we have to wait for big patches and dlc releases at the same time...and not seperate.
I think that's what killzone is on about.

Sounds like dev-spin to me... So I'm expected to believe that PSN/XBL chews up over 60% (24/64 = 37.5%) of my bandwidth to provide essentially the same service as MSN? I don't buy it. What I do buy is that DICE programmers just aren't especially good.

Ooooh. Because SONY and Microsoft impose bandwidth limits on developers and on PC you can do whatever you want fucking troll.
