I hoping to upgrade of my current PC parts in the near future so a i download the latest BIOS for my ASUS P5K-E thinking it might cause some issues with the newer hardrware i'll be putting in. (despite being told to never mess with the BIOS unless there's a problem)

So anyway I install the ASUS BIOS update utility from my Mobo run under compatabillity (doesn't work under W7) point it towards the new BIOS ROM and it fails so now i'm stuck with a corrupt BIOS in a catch 22. (can't boot to fix it and it won't boot)

Luckily i've got a laptop, guess it'll be a new bulid for me then.

check the website for the mobo, there maybe a second chip on the mobo or a way of rescuing the old one.

I'm guessing my best bet is new CMOS/BIOS Chip, failing that a new replacement right?

the cmos is soldered to the mobo, and the chances of getting a correct duplicate are nearly nil.

without a backup cmos on the mobo, you'll need a new mobo.

I meant CMOS battery my mistake.

If things go like they'll meant to I should be buliding a new i7 system before the months out i'll just need to salvage my old HDDs for their data and DVD drives.

The the rest (apart from the mobo) can be sold I guess.
