The topic says it all!!

What sounds more appealing to you!

Personally I would say BETA!
A large if not whole portion of the game to test before everyone else! Sounds appealing!

Demo! A cut down single level or 30 minute trial! Barley enough content to warrant a 20 minute download!

BETA's have now replaced demos!

Or relabelled should I say! More people will hit a beta than a demo! Thinking there getting more!
And the fact they get to test it before most people!!

I think developers are using this method to get a larger audience!

What's your thoughts!

I think you're absolutely right, and it makes me sick.

I can't remember what the game was, but it's beta went live 2 days before release. 2 fucking days. A beta is a development milestone, not a fucking marketing gimmick. Alpha => Beta => Gold.

It seems that publishers now embrace the slander on forums about releasing betas, and literally are now doing that. Then they can cut development costs if it doesn't sell enough to warrant finishing the product.

The sad thing is, this bullshit is lapped up by consumers instead of scorned. People need to stop bitching about being sold betas, because it's their own fucking fault.

I think they think if they call it beta then they know there will always be fanboy trolls telling everyone to shut up because it is beta and also that it is kinda ok to leave the bug sorting for later, no pressure.

beta is greek for : doesn't work.

And you are right, beta's are glorfied demos on most games this past year more so than ever.

As for a certain beta out right now, i'd be ashamed to call it pre-alpha...never mind beta lol.

and killzone's comment is spot on, all you need to do is read forums and people are happy shit hits the fan (whatever game) because it's only "BETA" =))

Well the move from disks is more to do with prevalent online, not publishers deeming development milestones as a marketing tool...
