i remember getting broadband at home, fast internet, fast porn and ONLINE GAMING FUCK YEAH!
i remember getting a Network adapter for my PS2 and spending about an hour registering and then i played one of the few games i could online
MEDAL OF HONOR RISING SUN!

i dont seem to be able to find any other videos of actual online combat its always bots but it gives you an idea, despite hating Rising Sun singleplayer i actually liked online, i even got my first nemesis "mr pink" despite what was happening on any map we would charge at one another
another game i discussed with the guys online tonight but no one remembers is Hardware Online Arenas, one of the first network enabled games for Ps2, it came free when you registered, it was vehicular combat and actually was pretty damn fun

but i think the award for most played game online on my ps2 goes to both TimeSplitters and Battlefront 2 online

what was your first online gaming games/memories

I believe mine was Counter Strike 1.6 on Steam back in 2004. God I spent ages on that game.
But years before that a friend introduced me to Age of Empires 2 which we hooked up over a LAN connection, but I don't think that counts.
That was when I was hooked on Warhammer. Anyone play that?

Great thread
I kind of dabbled in online on PC back in the 90s with a bit of Unreal and Starcraft, but was so used to fighting AI I just got owned depressingly hard and never really stuck with it.
What I consider the start of my online gaming career was Burnout 3 on PS2. So many hours (and friends)... From there I moved on to Killzone which again took up many hours. I also spent a fair while playing that free game Pud mentioned which was pretty decent. I understand there's a similar one coming to PS3 soon (but it's not free).
Then I moved onto Battlefield: Modern Combat which was the pinnacle of online FPS for a long, long time.
But then I discovered Monster Hunter. And that is like a promising student discovering heroin. You had three character slot on your memory card, and I had two with characters clocking over 1000 hours each and a third at 800 hours. Awesome game. Awesome community. And the closest I've come to being a celebrity. I had people coming in to my town just because I was there (I was at the top of most of the leaderboards). Good times...

Erm my memory of online gaming goes back to battlefield 2
That's what goes me into it all!!
Met tons of people! Hosted 2 adult clans and 3 juniors an 3 servers! 2 ranked, one 32 an the other 64 player i think (sounds strange saying 64 players)
And one 16 man unranked server
This made gaming for me!!!
Moved from bf2 to all the expansions!! Erm special forces! And the other 2 I cannot remember!!
Moved from that to 2142 loved it but not as much!!
By that time I was more of a trouble maker developing d3d hacks for bf2 and 2142
2141 was good but it was too buggy an just not as good!! Anyway that faded!!! Some time passed an I fort fuck it!! Ps3 an first game was bad company!!
Where I met the oldest pal seddon!!
Who then talked me into killzone where I met vlad then guided to all u
Lot!!!
Anyway my gaming life story lol

I loved Lost Planet 2 - fucking awesome. But my disk cracked
I never bought the first as I played it on my bro's XBox, and I heard it was buggy with slow load times on PS3.
