Sony has officially revealed the Next Generation Portable will be called the PlayStation Vita at their E3 press conference.

Sony revealed that the new platform will have cross-game voice chat from launch. They also disclosed that the “Near” location application will support local ad-hoc multiplayer. It appears that the connectivity functions are going to be a big selling point for the handheld game system.

A retail price of $249 for the WiFi only version and $299 for the 3G version.

Expect the UK price to be around £250 and £300

Jack tretton just said Japan will have it by the end of the year with others to follow by the end of the fiscal year (31st march 2012) just just put a massive damper on things because I know we'll be last.

why call it a vita, sounds like a bloody tampon or something!
The tech looks impressive but never personally been a fan of any handheld console (minus the 1st gameboy).

Plus don't particularly fancy parting with the best part of 300quid, for something i'd only use a couple of times.....PS3 itself is bloody cheaper!
