Graphics card problem

I've been gifted a graphics card to have a go at installing on my PC, a GE Force 7950 with double DVI connectors

i uninstalled the previous ATI drivers for me onboard graphics, shut down the computer and installed the card, when i rebooted the computer to run the install of the Graphics card drivers i notice the screen was covered in lots of tiny dots, of varying colour, the main image was still recognisable, when i finally got to the XP desktop the same thing was to be had there

i installed the drivers from NVIDIA and rebooted the system, however the dots are persisting, they are not as obvious with the proper resolution but i can still see them.

and the other thing is Firefox 4 goes a bit skewif graphics wise, parts of the screen tear, but i dont get it on IE8

ive not got the system over clocked in anyway all settings are default

i can tell you i have done the following so far

i made sure the BIOS was set so the PCI-E was the primary display adapter, that made no change

i have tried both the latest drivers from NVIDIA and also gainward the manufacturer and even though its one version ahead, that has made no difference, ive took some shots of what ive seen so far...




ive since tried reseating the card and reconnecting all cables, its made no difference sadly
any suggestions?

the card is faulty, probably the RAM has been fried with static or overclocked.
Nothing you can do but change the card.

hmmm interesting the guy who sent it to me said it was working fine last time he tried it, ive also only got a 300w power supply.

im not doubting you daz but can you tell me how you came to that conclusion as ive never seen this from any graphics card problem ive came accross, helps me in the future

what is your monitors refresh rate and resolution?
make sure the card isn't trying to output more than what your monitor supports.

sy in all honesty i do not know, i did think about the refresh settings however the NVIDIA control panel had them jammed on 60hz and i couldnt change it.

fuck ah well ill have to buy one now, at least this one was gratis, theres some debate between me and the fella whether it was broke before or ive fried it with static, note all precautions were taken before hand i did earth myself

It's possible that it has condensation on it before you turned it on.
Static is rare these days, but you never know, there's a LOT of current in static and you dont always know about it either, it's not obvious.

well folks i bought the following card from best buy but things really have been up and down

when i got home i uninstalled the nvidia drivers that were still on and then used a program i'd heard of called driver cleaner, to get rid of any hidden portions of the drivers that might have been left, whether this was a good idea or not i dont know

then i installed the card Properly grounded, and it came up fine, i installed the drivers but the computer was running like an absolute dog, CPU usage was at a 100% while memory was barely being used (because it was all free now) any i rebooted a few times but still no joy

in the end i thought "have i buggered something up using that driver cleaner"

in the end i decided to uninstall it, roll back the system to tuesday and remove the graphics card, and my system runs fine now.

ive been messing with this for a few hours now and ive had enough frankly, tomorrow ill re-install the card again, and if its too much for my system to handle (i dont see why because the requirements match) its back to best buy and im giving up

reboot into safe mode, go into device manager, delete any references to graphics cards. Reboot into normal mode, let it find the new card, if it requests the driver from the CD, give it the location, reboot.

That should solve the problem.

well guys im still having the same problems 100% processor usage but ive discovered a but more today, its all down to hardware interrupts, im sorry to be lazy and not wanting to repeat myself but if you check my thread here:

you can see where i am up to, im just about to disable the onboard sound on the mobo see if that makes any fucking diff

ok folks weirdness persists, if i hibernate the PC and bring it back the processor usage plumments ot barely anything WTF
