It looks like Bioware are going to have a seriously hard time over this problem...

The gamesaves are getting corrupted. Some users have already put in more than 30 hours when the Ps3 locks up. When they return to the game the saved game is corrupt. Not only that, but the save game is copy protected so no backups can be made.
The game does feature multiple saves, so the thought is to return to a previous save, work past the corruption point, save again... the trouble is, people are reporting these can get corrupted too.!

Big fucking ouch.

First, please let me explain that I was not attempting to get anything for free from EA games. I would also like to state that I truly understand that EA will not refund my money when it was purchased from an outside distributor, however the retailer will not refund software either. It’s a perfect blame game where the consumer will always lose. I will forward any continued response from EA as I am curious if anything will play in my favor.

The real problem is not the failure to refund my money, but rather that no group will take responsibility to correct the known problem. Now I sit and wait for a network fix for the bug. In the meantime, I don’t get to enjoy playing the game the I purchased. As contradicting as it may appear, I would rather have purchased an alternate title like Deadspace2 (choice was made by available funds, wanted both but couldn’t purchase). I also understand that DS2 is an EA game, but assume this bug is probably exclusive to the ME2 title.

Via EA Support Chat (my user name has been X’d out):
Robert: Hi, my name is Robert. How may I help you?
Robert: Hi

XXX: Sorry for the delay

Robert: what is the problem that you are facing ?

XXX: I have had 2 corrupt save files from Mass Effect 2 and getting tired of
starting over. One game had 24+ hours logged and second game save only had 3.

Robert: ok

XXX: I have "googled" know problems and found some information that EA claims this
can be the result from a dirty disc. However my game was downloaded from the PSN
and there is no physical disc.

Robert: ok

Robert: You please try these steps

Robert: There may be some corrupt files on your system. Let’s try to delete these
files by following the steps below:

1. Press the PS button on the controller to enter the PLAYSTATION 3 XBM
(XrossMediaBar).
2. Select the Game tab.
3. Select the Game Data Utility and press the X button.
4. Select your game
5. Find and delete all the files listed.

XXX:then what?

Robert: Please try this

XXX: Seems like I will lose my data again.

Robert: Yes

XXX: I really am tired of attempting to advance in this game with the problem and
instability of unknown save progress. I would really like a refund as I have lost
my desire to play the game. However I don't see EA refunding the money and Sony
has referred me to EA.

XXX:I chose to purchase ME2 over Deadspace2 and regret my choice.

Robert: I am sorry but there is nothing I can do in this case. you please contact
sony for a refund

XXX: Sony has advised there is no refund on games purchased via PSN. This simply
is a programming error on the behalf of the game and not the fault of Sony.

Robert: I am sorry but we can provide you are refund for any game purchased from
PSN store

XXX: How can EA expect me to purchase another game like DeadSpace2 knowing EA is
not doing anything to address the known problem? Why would I purchase another EA
title that could possibly result with the same errors?

Robert: If you have purchased the game from EA store then i would have surely
provide you a refund but in this case i can't

XXX: So what expectations should I have from EA to address and correct my problem?
Nothing? Does EA except to have any customer satisfaction? I see... it's Sony's
problem, wait... it's EA's problems.... no, back to Sony. Another consumer
tossed in a pickle with who is at fault.

Robert: You have purchased the game via your PS3 then how come it's a fault of EA ?

XXX: Because its a programming fault... Not the fault of Sony. Are you seriously
attempting to blame another entity for this problem? No retailer will accept fault
to a poorly programmed game. No retailers will refund open software.

Robert: I am sorry but there is nothing I can do in this case.I can't provide you a
refund for the game

Robert: Is there anything else I can do for you at this moment ?

XXX: Yes, forward me to someone who cares...

XXX: Let me ask you, do you feel you have successfully addressed this matter?

Robert: I am sorry as i have already informed you that you need to contact SONY for
a refund for the game

XXX: I have advised you in return that I already have...

Robert: In order to assist you in correct manner I am forwarding your issue to next
level of CSRs for further review. They will get back to you as soon as possible
through email. Is that okay with you ?

XXX: So, basically I am out of luck from purchasing a game that will not work and
the company responsible refuses to do anything about it?

XXX:Yes Robert, please forward my issue to the next level of CSR's so they can
attempt to solve my problem since you have done nothing but pass on the
responsibility.

Robert: ok

Now it's not EA's responsibility to issue a refund, it's Sony's. So getting mad with someone at EA who is trying to help is no use what so ever.
