Sony takes Geohot and Fail0verflow to Court

It's funny you both mention the conspiracy theory.
One of the admins at TSA has been thinking the same way, Sony finally started making money on the PS3, shortly afterwards, the jailbreak dongle is leaked from a service center, and everything goes nuts.

This will no doubt help Sony to sell a lot more consoles.

PC software is different. Photoshop, 3DSMax, Maya all that shit. I wonder how many iPhone developers use that shit without paying for it? A lot I bet.

And I firmly believe in demos though. Everything I put on iTunes will have a Lite version. And I'm of the same belief on the PSN store too. As a rule (although there are word of mouth exceptions) no demo: no sale.

Putting out a demo requires faith in your product. If you're knowingly putting out shit for sale, you'd be a retard to put out a demo also. But there are shit demos, of shit products. Which just goes to show how fucking clueless some developers are.


As an aside, the game's industry is ironically the biggest abuser of pirated games going LOL. From CEOs down. But I suppose it could be argued it's for research - which it actually is.

Yesterday, we reported on leaked court documents, filed by Sony's lawyers against Geohot (George Hotz) and fail0verflow. Today, further legal docs, regarding the case, have surfaced on the net. This time around, we get to see Geohot's legal response to Sony's recent accusations. These documents, which were filed by Mr. Hotz's attorney today, give us a first look on his defense.

Geohot's attorney describes many flaws in Sony's original legal motion, and goes on to detail them. He pokes holes in everything from Geohot's alleged relationship with team fail0verflow, all the way to Sony's assertion that California holds jurisdiction over the case. Based on these recent docs, it seems like Sony will have a formidable foe in Geohot and his lawyer.

Sony REALLY HAVE shot themselves in the foot:

Mr. Hotz has never utilized an account with PayPal in connection with any activity relating to the Playstation computer. Affidavit of George Hotz ¶ 7. In fact, Mr. Hotz expressly tells people on his website not to give him donations for his efforts. Even more harmful to Sony’s personal jurisdiction argument, the only evidence put forward of Mr. Hotz’ Paypal account appears to be a transaction initiated by the plaintiff.

So at some point, Sony (it appears) tried to pay Geohot for something.

After reading the file 19-main.pdf, I'd say Sony have a fight on their hands.

But after attempting to pay George Hotz, they really could have jepordized their entire case. They attempted to break the law to enforce the law. (or so it might seem).

Compile it, you can get pretty much anything to run on any distro of linux......

existing apps and emulators out there.
all run fine............

get some half decent games / emulators working on it, needed access to more resources

Also it seems if any dummy who hasn't disconnected the cat5 cable from the ps3 will be in trouble, the ps3 talks to sony at boot up, so they will get fucked over for that, it sends what you are loading at boot up and simple checks of the system without being signed in.. oops! imma laugh at them people.

Well in the 4 years i know of 3 different OS that ran very well on linux, i know 2 other Gaming OS that worked just for emulating etc.
And i heard of XMBC port for it too, But it ran like shit.

Release a SDK for developing all this could of been prevented.

But on Topic of what you said i know of alot of guys who did do Development for the OtherOS
and from what i have come across and tested a fair bit of effort went into some people work

So from that comment i think its fair to say Shit got done on it.

Maybe not enough for Headlines as to be honest Sony give you fuck all resources for it to be amazing, So what was the point in having it there in the first place.

Its an endless debate bacause everyone has there own morals on it.

Open a channel to the PSN market place and take a cut like Apple. Keep it separate from the main PSN stuff, and fleece a killing off twats releasing a flood of bollocks. Plus we get the odd gem.

But in regards to the hackers, as I've already said, the given excuses are bullshit. I doubt it's for monetary gain, although others will exploit that aspect. It's an intellectual ego-wank in the same vein as viruses.

As someone said in that thread on the EU forum: failedOverflow need to get laid. I lol'd at that comment.

Who knows what the real reasons are for completing the hacking job.
Goehot and fail0verflow can scream linux to the world and in court, but behind closed doors, they can say what they want.

No one will ever really know the truth other than those involved.

The rammifications of the hacks and the resulting courtcase, however could be far reaching for a lot of people.
