you're not kidding it sucks. You could try reflowing the mobo, but even if it did work, you'd need to get the game out of the drive and do an immediate backup of the savegames.

There's no easy way to say it, but you will need a new PS3 eventually. Now get an extended warranty too.

I got my DIsc out so thats no worry

i have the PS3 in every possible bit on my living room floor.

Question is now.... Do i go out buy a Heat gun and some Super Heat Sync Compound,
And see if it works for me.

Or do i just cut my losses and fuck everything off.
I dont think i can justify £230 for another PS3.

Saved game is only DS, so its not the end of the world

you need to go to B&Q to get the heat gun. @£20
PC shop for the paste. @50p

reflowing is only a temporary fix.
You could do it and trade it in at game for a lot less than £230

Or buy a new one.
Thats your choice.

It's funny dave we all froze on rush too.

Anyways as for ps3 fucking up, yeah it sucks, i know i'm on the 4th!
But i have insurance.

Besides the point when you don't have insurance it sucks even more.
I would quick fix heat gun method enough for game/gamestation to turn on and to trade in.
I think you will get £110 right now. (60gb)

If you have a CEX shop near they are going for about £150 and gamestation/game will match that if CEX is near.

Anyways other than that you can pay sony for a refurb at £130 and a 3 month warrenty, then buy a game insurance plan to cover you.

If you do fix it, try and log in and deactivate your system and remove login details.

If you choose none, then.. son, i am dissapoint.

:pissed_off: I have no idea what to do LOL

I was thinking of the Gun and doing a trade in,
But that's going to take a few days to sort out.

Anyone who has done the Heat Method and a Redoing the heat compound
how long did it last.

Daz i know you give it a go didnt you?

Maybe if i can get the shit i might be able to fix this on Sat and do a trade in @ game or Gamestation and get a slim

I dont think ill do the shit with Sony, a Recond unit and soon to have the same issue

Didnt they resolve YLOD in the slim?

my first attempt at reflowing lasted a week.

I think most stores are doing insurance for around £50 for 3 years.
It's worth it for peace of mind.

Sound am going to call up GameStation and Game and see how much they would take for a trade in.....

(Will they take it even tho that warranty sticker has been removed.....
(Plus i upgraded the HD, should i leave it in or put the 40gb one back in?)

I was looking at a heat gun:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... AT+GUN.htm

Argos it round the corner for me, a quick 5 min trip, B&Q is miles and miles away

Would that do... Has it gota hit X heat..

I was going to use Normal Thermal Compound (Here in the workshop) as i aint keeping it, i don't want to go tracking for Silver Thermal..
This advisable or not lol

Silver might be better if you were gonna keep it, but as you're not, thermal will be fine.
The heat gun is the same as mine, so it should be good.

Use 350°C only.

also warm the gun first for about 20 seconds, let it get upto working heat.

I assume you know how to do this? If not hit me back and I'll give you the instructions.

Try to keep the original warranty sticker, use the heatgun to peel it off and keep it safe, then just glue it back on.
Also put the original HDD back in, some stores wont take it if you have swapped it! (WTF?)

1. Strip down to mobo - DONE!
2. Remove all thermal paste, clean and prep for replacement.
3. reflow mobo
4. leave for 1 hour to cool, DO NOT MOVE IT ONCE YOU START, so get the mobo stable before you begin.
5. Rebuild
6. Turn it on and test it.
7. Swap HDD
8. Sell the lazy fucker.

Reflowing
Dead easy, but remember one thing:
[glow=red]DO NOT MOVE THE MOBO ONCE YOU START[/glow]

http://www.yellowlight.co.uk/fix.php
Watch the video's.
It's very very easy, the hard part is stripping it down and rebuilding it correctly first time.
The number of times I've rebuilt it and forgot to re-attach the fan power cable is unbelievable.

Are you talking about Heating it up or the Liquid?
