Yeah, but that drop will come off the money you get off the trade-in more than from the shops profits. Or shops will stop doing second hand altogether, publishers win, consumers lose.
Yes and to sell at a lower price, they have to buy back at a lower price.

OK Simple,

Who Pays for the Servers you Play on.
Who Pays for the Staff to Maintain them?
Who Pays for the Bandwidth
Who Pays for the Upgrading of Hardware for the services?
Who pays for the patching of the servers when a update is released
Who pays for Support on the servers
Who pays for the Disk Space of servers

Everyone here should know they aint cheap,
Bandwidth if the killer out there and that costs money

If your Buying Second hand games the people who look after your servers for your online services dont see a penny

How on earth are they going to support it?
With the moneys they got from First Selling the game.

The same moneys that had to pay for the Designers, Coders, Actors, Testers Publishing Advertising.....

@Dave, but the initial brand new purchase covers this cost for the life of the product.
Why charge someone extra for a used game? After all, only one copy of the game will ever be online at a time.

The point here is simple, publishers want money that they dont have access too. Or even more simple, they want MORE MONEY!

If you went and bought a second hand car, and the dealer sold it to you, and 7 days later it would'nt start, and you got a letter from the maker, who said you CANNOT drive this car again until you pay us £2000. How would you react then?
£10=25%
£2000=less than 25%

I'm all for supporting publishers and developers, but not like this, afterall Dave, you dont buy many second hand games if any... I do, so does Seddon, and maybe Infinite will do too. Also if you sell the games to a store, you will not get anywhere near as much money back.

Depends if the deal give you 6 months warranty, if not you would have to pay to get it working again :-)

True i understand they have received the money already per copy sold.
But how do you know it covers the costs and there not loosing moneys out of it....

As what other console gives it to you for free..

PC Gaming..... Most servers People pay for themself there is not as many Public Servers as Consoles.

Xbox 360 you pay for a Online Service, Cover the cost of server maintance

PS3 Its free :-)

The money you pay to Microsoft for online play goes to Microsoft, and thats why I liked the PS3 over the 360 initially.
But for fucks sake, I've said it thousands of times, I'd be happy to rent a server to play online.
1. better pings
2. more control over allowed server slots, kick the public to make space for friends.
3. Different maps and game types, all the favourites.

What's annoyed me is that they dont give us a choice, we have to use their servers, thus giving them the ability to charge. They want it both ways. I want it my way, ie a choice.

More food for thought...
If a game changes hands more often, say 3 times, thats an extra £30
But could this mean games are deliberately made to a lower standard to fuel more used game exchanges?

That's true, but I don't think it's such a massive factor in the grand scheme of things. Very few games use dedicated servers beyond matchmaking, and a lot of games in the trade in bin are beyond their online lifetime. There's also third parties like GaySpy etc.

I suppose everyone has heard about rockstar falling out with Asda over Red Dead Redemption?
Now the rumour is the Rockstar dont want Asda to cut the price (probably £25-£30) so have refused to sell Asda any copies for retail. Online is ok though.
So it's ok to price fix now as well?

Yer they have a right too,

Its like Hugo Boss (I know alot about and Jack Jones)

They give a lot of stock to the contractors (Like a client who has our system)

They say to them you can sell this at any price they want and they will make up the price difference on select items they say.

So they buy a top in for £12 normal retail is £30, but they sell it for 0.01 They will make the price different up and give them the 11.99 back,

I was like wtf when i first heard about it, but after some explaining, figures and what it does it does all make scene.

The question to ask is do Asda buy the games out right like buy a box of 500, or are they contracted out like i have seen a number of time,

of that is the case they have 0 control over it

They can choose who they sell to and who they dont, but it's the reason they decided NOT to sell to Asda that should concern you.
