Elite matures to the 21st century?
I'm shocked and amazed, finally Frontier Developments gets around to updating Elite.

But £1.25 million is a big ask.

I can't say I've ever heard of that game but when you're asking such a number through Kickstarter, you can at least upload a video or some pictures.

Wait...what? You've never heard of Elite?
Maybe they left it too long for the kickstarter...

just had another look at the kickstarter. It's afuckingnother beta used as a promotional tool:
Closed beta for £100 you get access to the "first" closed beta in Jan 2014. But the game is due for release in Mar 2014.
In other words, you can play it 2 month earlier for a whopping £80 premium.
I'm getting sick of this type of marketing con.

Yeah Daz, that's basically every one of the games shown on Kickstarter. You pay to play Alpha, you pay again to play Beta. And finally when the game is out you have to pay for that as well. It's 3x income for them and a lot more for those people paying a hell of a lot more just to get an item named after them or a forum badge.
Basically, people complain about DLC costing money. Yet they seem contempt enough to pay for the game 3x. No wonder there's a huge influx of games showing up on Kickstarter. It's like an excuse to be as greedy as Activion but with the added effect as being cool and underground.

Indeed, but it's pretty much the same model as a publisher with milestone payments... It's no different to the free-will rip off credit card companies offerDazbobaby wrote:just had another look at the kickstarter. It's afuckingnother beta used as a promotional tool:

A fool and his money and all that...
For anyone too young, this was Elite... State of the art bang-bang. It was the very first GTA. Sort of lol

In a possible pre-emptive strike, 14 people are to lose their jobs at Frontier Developments.

source: MCV"Frontier regretfully has given a total of 14 people (from a staff of 233) notice that their roles are redundant, across art (9), animation (3) and audio (2) disciplines,” MD David Walsh explains.
“This is due to the changing mix of skills requirements for our current and future projects – it is not a reflection on the company's prospects, which remain healthy.

I've cancelled my pledge.
1. It won't make it to the end.
2. Too many damned changes going on with pledges. Looks and feels unprofessional now.
3. Staff laid off before Christmas.
