WTF is wrong with the world?

A 30 year old teacher runs away with a 15 year old student. He was due to be suspended, so they ran to France.
Now the police have a European Wide arrest warrant out for him.
Ok so it's wrong, she's 15, she's a minor. But was going to lose his job, his wife, his son. They could possibly have handled it better than they did. No other details about the background are available.
But the police in Rochdale and Sheffield allow grooming and prostitution of girls, and most of them are younger than 15.
So why in this case of a teacher and a student are they going all out?
It beggars belief.
By backing these two into a corner and giving them no place to run too or settle, it could end up being much much worse. Could it end in a double suicide? I hope not. But he's got nothing to come back to other than jail, a criminal record, and being on the sex offenders register. She's going to lose the man she loves.

The police are trying to change the law in their favour.
If they are involved in a police chase, and they kill a pedestrian, the officer involved wont be prosecuted.
