I have a sudden influx of spam users on my forums. The thing is I believe those are actual people completing the registrations because of the measures I've taken. Funny though, as long as they passed registration they don't care if their posts show up or not LOL. There has to be some companies there paying retards to complete registrations so that they can post links everywhere and boost ratings.

So how do you stop human spammers?

do what I did, create a new user forum and force all new registrations in there before they spam the rest of the forum.

If they're human you can increase their privileges

I am moderating 1st post of any user but it doesn't stop them from registering. It is pointless to even register because of that but retards don't understand it.

It is getting out of hand and the most persistent spam is from Ukraine LOL. Basically I changed register.php filename and put a trap on old one, and had about 20 attempts to register in 24 hours meaning 20 automated registrations as they go straight for register page from their bookmarks.

Funny how after a couple of failed attempts to auto register the script obviously notified the spammer and he/she then went to the forums found correct link and made 4 accounts. On a moderated forum! Stupid and persistent, how worse can it get?

Anyway I have a great idea how to actually stop human spammers registering. Put a personality questionnaire for anyone to take upon registration. Could be any personality questionnaire. This will not only stop time wasters but will give you an insight into your members.

Long shot but it is probably better then to have ban 5 accounts every morning.

It doesn't work, no one buys that shit, but search engines. This is how they boost rating of those sites. For Google, the more sites link to 1 site the higher it is on the search results. All they care is to post a link else where.

So really, Google should stop factoring links from forums/message boards into their rating system.

Forum links are valid indicator of site success. People naturally share useful or cool stuff on forums. Pretty sure google has some system in place to filter spam, but do spammers know? Or do they care? As I said my forums are moderated, unless approved your post doesn't see the light of day, yet they still try again and again and again.

Many of those that hit the trapped script went to the site, found the correct link and registered. Definitely real people. My guess they get paid for registering on forums. The proof of the job might be confirmation email sent back. Makes sense, otherwise why would they bother if they get banned before even they posted.
