and it got me thinking, did you ever work for anyone who actually saw you as a great worker?

The guys name is Ian Ambler and he used to manage the pub where I worked for 7 years. He basically gave me free reign to do as I please, even running things in his absence. The owners didn't like me much, and made me aware of it, but Ian knew I was more than capable and even dropped me an extra £50.00 every now and again.

I never asked for the responsibility, I just did what needed doing, and did it as best I could. Hardly anything ever went wrong, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, even more when I was around. It helped to make for a fantastic working atmosphere, and in a pub... it was the key to our success, and they'd queue from the door to the bar for drinks.

For these and many other reasons I can safely say this was the best manager I ever worked for by far.

Mike proper nice fella, never asked you to do anything he wouldnt. and because of that i learned its not what you ask people to do its HOW you ask them

he asked me to come in once before christmas he said

Gav i need someone to help clean the shop, its a bit of a shitty task but come in your own clothes and pretend your just the cleaner and pass on any customers to everyone else.

i liked that, it was honest and he was very grateful i did it

he stood outside once for an hour helping me change a headlight that was a bitch and never complained once. he used to laugh and joke with the lads and even put the football on in the back sometimes!

and he even one easter sunday shut the shop and said bollocks to it im not opening

sadly halfords have made him leave because they want more hard nose bastards. the irony is every store he went to did really well..... go figure halfrauds you twunts.

next one was george at the old IT firm i used to work at, it was a small firm so he always got his hands dirty, used to be in the merchant navy so he was a right good character had some cracking stories. again a bloke who never asked you to do anything he wouldnt and a very flexible person.

the trouble is managers who wont lead by example and wont lend a hand.
