you know it was too tempting to resist, but seeing as DICE finally gave console owners the chance to rent a server, I rented 2 of them bad boys.
1: Rush Only, mostly Karkand maps, but I might change it to what ever rush maps people may want to play. Double tickets too... making for some EPIC battles.
Admin: dazbobaby
2: Conquest only, Map Wake Island (both game types)

just gone on a rampage and kicked everyone on my team, Operation Metro and within 3 tickets the enemy team took the first two crates.
Within another 3 minutes they took the next two.
less than a minute later they had one at the top of the escalators (now this is a complete bottleneck and should never happen), and had charged the other Mcom.
I looked at our team and only 3 people were playing, everyone else just stood idle... so I kicked ever fooker going.
bad mood today. If I had something of no value to smash I'd fuckin' vaporise it.

I've done some research. Basically what you rent on console is not a virtual server on physical server rack like on PC, you rent an entry in a database for almost the same price.
PC servers get permanent IP address assigned and you can use procon because of that. On consoles when your server gets empty it loses IP address until the next time this server is requested, then it gets assigned a dynamic IP address.
Basically you are paying for the air when your server is empty, because it doesn't exist. It is ingenious way of making money for EA and a rip off for anyone who pays for a server on console.

Interesting, but how do you connect to something that's not assigned a unique address I.e. an up address.....
Sounds a little crap an too advance, how can something turn on based on a connection to a so called dead server or ip In your terms
A server is up or not. Its assigned a up address or not. Never seen it work any way

It's not a rip-off if people are willing to pay for their own map rotations and settings.
I#m prepared to do it because it has this URL all over the server(s) this might increase traffic and bring some new users to the forum.
If you dont want or need the service then it might look like a ripoff, but it's not to people who want to use it. It might be expensive but thats the only downside.
If you want to rage at someone rage at the water companies who are selling YOUR water to the likes of desani (Coke) and selling it back to you at an inflated price, and all the while you guys down south have a hosepipe ban because you have no water, but end up paying the same rates as if you had full resevoirs.

Think killzone is nearly right.
In my opinion it probaly has a set pool of ips which get released to so many rented spaces, you are only renting instances anyway, this is why half the backend is missing.
Once your instance closes through lack of players this instance will close and then be reassigned somewhere else.
But the server for example "mess hall" will have the same ip as "some other website clan" it's just that it depends on what conditions are going on, players, etc etc.
either waay, i think having some control over how some games play is a GOOD thing for players, even at the prices it is, it's not bad if a few chip in, really.

Well there is only X amount of physical servers in a region that can produce Y amount of virtual servers. When your virtual server gets empty, it gets killed and IP address removed but it still exists in the database, so when someone searches for it they will find it and if they join it, a virtual server instance gets started and assigned a physical IP address.theENIGMATRON wrote:Interesting, but how do you connect to something that's not assigned a unique address I.e. an up address.....

Interesting thing is, and I disagree with Sy that it is a good thing, that when they run out of physical servers in one region they will start your server in another region, even though you paid to have your server in Europe you can end up having a Japanese instance because European server rack is full.
Basically it is on demand server service and you pay daily/monthly fee for the privilege. Yes Daz, you might be paying a pound a day so that you can play your own rotation, but if your server is empty you not just paying for air you cannot even play on your server unless you get it full.
Try this, change some settings like bullet damage and your server will never recover. So I can argue with you by saying I pay this rental so that I can play on my server with less damage, but in reality I wouldn't be able to do even that.
