Has anyone tried the online system to play games yet? (from our eurogamer)
I just got an email with a code for a free game.
All i have done so far though is logged in and watched a girl playing saints row 2 lol.
I'm just waitin for dcuo to finish up downloading and i'm gunna redeem the free game and try it out.
Had a good look in the box, they provide u with everything aswell hdmi, batteries, rechargable batteries, cables, usb the whole lot to get online.
U can pay £6.99 a month and rent 100's of games u like (as many as u like too).
I might use this code for the new batman..or try mass effect 2.

Yer i give it ago,
There is a lag in the control, FPS is impossible i find,
Driving games its possible, you just have to make your move a fraction earlier,
in FPS you cannot..... no like you can predict if someone is going to jump out on you and where.
I was going to wait for Saint Rows or w/e its called.
But i dont know if my code has expired.
You should of code a Code in that book they give you!
Buy a Game for a Pound, And then Also give you a code after you Order.
(Me and Seddon did too)
Its sitting there collecting Dust, we need to be more local to a Server for it to be worth while.
Also the Advertise HD gaming, I dont think it is, I understand its streaming, but the loss in quality is really noticeable.

well they sent me a code to redeem for a free game, i see that £1 game code in the book aswell.
I do like the controller though xbox style with ps3 layout feels nice on the hand.
Thumbs aren't stretching to get to the d-pad.
Anyways, i'll see what it's like , what fps game did u play?

Well so let me understand this. You connect to onlive through online to play online game elsewhere? Basically you have double the latency from you to onlive and fromonlive to the FPS game online servers? Goodluckwith that and I believe Dave, it must be shit.

played some trials, its ok but the lack of sharpness in gfx is a deal breaker and that coupled with the slow sometimes jerky movement when you turn around particularly in fps sucks
played borderlands, seems sooo slow in movement
sometimes controller buttons don't work, weird as you can quit games but can't do bugger all else

Go for Batman...you can get Mass Effect 2 dirt cheap now, but Batman isn't even out just yet.

really? cool i'll do that then.
And @ onlive debate.
I signed up for a month £6.99 for 100 games.
Some recent titles and some older classics and early 00's games.
The sharpness is something u see straight away, the quality is like a youtube video at 360p (recorded in hd) - not quite the same as 720p on youtube.. know what i am trying to say? all compressed up.
I played a fair few games tonight, darksiders, warhammer 40k, dirt 3, homefront, hotel, aliens vs predator, aliens vs predator 2000, rome, tropico 4 - all a bit gooey looking lol.
Homefront.. not much delay in all honesty but u could tell people were seeing u miles before on screen they be shooting at u before u could aim, yet they were doin no damage.
dirt 3 was alright, except the gfx are not really good enough compared to a ps3 for example.
The single player games are ok, but ya know.
It's cool to watch others playing though lol.
It's 6.99 a month on a pay as u go system so if u ever get bored n fancy summit, it's OKAY.
But thats all about the fat lady sings on onlive.

I wonder if delay comes from compression too? I know some codects are very fast to compress but then slow to decompress and some are other way round, because of algorythms used. But you need a codec that is fast both ways and also provides good compression for it to have minimal delay. Well I was never even going to try it didn't even like the idea in the first place.

Yeah no doubt the compression is part of it, if not mostly all of the gfx and delay issues.
Onlive is ok, but it's not a mainstream thing and it never will be.
Any game u buy on there is not yours either, i read the TOS and if you buy a new title for example: saints row the third - you can own this upto 6 years, when they can then take it off the servers and u wouldn't be able to play it.
So yeah, many issues like that too.
Eventually and probably in our lifetime we will see alot of digital games coming out, even on pc.. it will eventually take over the disc based games.
(try it) it's free to try, download the client on ya laptop or pc and see what u think, u can try games on a trial.
