I've just ordered a 7200RPM 250gb hdd and I'll get it this wednesday, so I'll post results for loading times. It probably wont make a massive difference, but it should help.
BTW my old one definately has some dodgy sectors, so it's going. I'll use it for music on my PS3 as an external HDD, and keep my subsonic stuff live!

I thought the RPM had to be consistent for it to work? And I'm sure there were some tests done with solid state HDDs and it made a negligible difference. There must be XMB caches or something throttling IO despite the hardware..?

The drive arrived!
Installed, formatted, and now just downloading all my old stuff.
But it's definately faster at installing, especially while it's still downloading.
I didn't bother timing any load-ups with the old drive, just couldn't be bothered.
But it IS faster and noticibly so.
As for SSD, I read some old (2009) reviews and they were marginal, but some 2011 reviews show significant increases all round.

Sounds like a lot of effort that will ultimately just result in spending more time looking at "waiting for players" screens

one mistake I did make was assuming I had all my save games backed up... I didn't, and the cloud is so slow to upload I've only got a few on there.
Shame on me.

If it's a locked save file, I think you have to wait 24 hours. I started backing up to the cloud, but got bored. I have a lot of saves...
