LOL Bring it on...
Electronic Arts is setting the bar high for Battlefield 3.
Speaking during the Ad Age Digital Conference in New York City today, CEO John Riccitiello confirm it will launch Battlefield 3 in November of this year and said the publisher has rival Activision's Call of Duty series in its sights.
"This November, we're launching Battlefield 3. It's going up against the next Call of Duty, which is presently the #1 game in the game industry," he said. "A game that last year did $400 million dollars in revenue on day one. [Battlefield 3] is designed to take that game down."
Riccitiello later compared this holiday's battle between the two games to the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry in baseball and said gamers can expect to see massive advertising campaigns for both titles.
"There will be a couple hundred million dollars of marketing against these two products going head to head. We think we have the better product," Riccitiello added.
EA Games president Frank Gibeau echoed similar comments during GDC last month when he told us: "Everybody loves a heavyweight fight, and that's what this is going to be. We're here to compete."

There's little doubt for me and a lot of other people that the Battlefield franchise is definitely the better of the two games. But a lot more people would disagree, and it's all down to personal taste, $100m in marketing wont change people's minds.
Lets just hope its better than Medal of Honor (it could have been great, but the sniper rifles were over powered and the maps were biased in favour of the attackers).

There is no doubt bf3 will be more popular on the pc since its a follow up to battlefield 2, people have waited years for a sequel.
The console though.. i'm not so sure.
Not everybody but some are pure cod fans and will keep buying that shit, i always hated cod but i did buy mw2 and black ops and they both had a lifespan of several weeks until the hackfests and fucking lag induced shit that goes on in it.
The problem is cod is a arcade shooter, battlefield is a tactical-arcade shooter and i think people prefer on a console to get easy kills with 1 bullet, so opt for the easier game- cod.
Cod is just a rat run game, let loose in a box, run around chasing people.
These players come to battlefield and hate vehicles and then complain at people who use them which somehow makes us real bf players "scum and cheats".
In terms of gameplay i played bfbc2 for over a year - and that game is a spin off series from real battlefield.
BF3 is a sequel to bf2, i put 3000+ hours into bf2 on the pc from 2005, as for bf3... i think it will be one fo the best fps games to play for sheer gameplay alone.
No matter how much ea spend, cod will always win because these guys who play it don't really understand the battlefield franchise, infact battlefield is older than half of the cod players, i would think.

Fuck - and I thought I was bordering on excess with 2.5k odd hours on Monster Hunter on PS2...
If Battlefield is a thinking man's game relative to CoD, that's only a good thing surely? Let all the retards/children fuck off to CoD and leave the real game to the grown ups lol

THat is true but.. you only need to visit ps forums or ea forums to see the general sort of person playing this game... ex cod or warhawk fanboys.
They do not grasp this game is about infantry, vehicles, big maps and tactics.
You get those guys camping in houses and when a tank blows through the wall and kills them it's "vehicle ho" "you suck" "can't fight on foot" mentality..

But that's ok - they'll buy the game, EA/Dice will get the money, we'll have to put up with them for a month or two, then they'll fuck off back to 360-quick-scoping on Modern Homofare...

We've already built a better game than Call of Duty - Battlefield 2!
http://www.gamerzines.com/ps3/news/dice ... -duty.html
As EA's CEO John Riccitiello continues to tip Battlefield 3 as being "the best product in the industry this year", the game's executive producer Patrick Bach thinks that the developer already built a better game than Call of Duty in 2010.
"I think it's based on what we did with Bad Company 2 last year, actually," said Bach when we asked him why EA thinks Battlefield 3 will outclass this year's Call of Duty, which is still to be officially announced by Activision.
"Asking the community and the reviewers which was the better game (between Bad Company 2 and Black Ops), we had the higher score.
"So we've already built a better game in theory, but I think it's just based on the trust everyone has in DICE and in us building Battlefield games in general."
But although Bach is confident he'll be more popular with the critics, he isn't prepared to discuss whether Battlefield 3 will smash Call of Duty in the sales charts.
"That's not up to me to talk about because I'm not the expert," he replied when we asked him whether he thought Battlefield 3 could outperform this year's Call of Duty commercially.
"I'm the expert in building in games so I don't know. I think there are many factors that need to click to make that happen, but then again if you have the better product, why wouldn't you?"
EA's confidence in Battlefield 3 continues to hit the headlines. Earlier in the week, EA's Marketing Director for UK & Ireland Stuart Lang told an audience of European journalists that Battlefield 3 "will be the strongest in the space this year", while Riccitiello commented that Battlefield 3 "is designed to take (Call of Duty) down."
Activision has yet to officially announce this year's Call of Duty, despite confirming that another game in the series is due in the second half of the year. The game is expected to be the first title from Activision's new studio Sledgehammer Games.
