Come on some of you Sound Buffs!!!

Can a 5.1 or 7.1 Surround sound signal be sent through a 2.5 Audio Jack?

Someone was bragging about a 7.1 Audio Headset,
So i went looking.

Thinking you had 2 lines. 1 for the Optical Sound Input.
and Another for the Mic out (USB or Jack)

But i was surprised by the Sound Input being a 2.5 Audio Jack...

I notice the difference between Optical and 3.5 Jack AC Jack.

So why would a headset be any difference

Yes you can, count the number of black rings on the jack.
1. Mono
2. Stereo
3. Stereo + Mic

although I've only ever seen a maximum of 3, I'm sure more can be added. Although for 7.1 it'd need 4 rings and it might to too much for a 3.5mil jack. The larger (guitar) jacks wouln't be a problem.

also don't forget most headsets have 3-6 speakers and are connected with tubes which filter and tilt sound to your ears as needed.. the modern ones come with amps and stuff to decode as needed.

But @question yeah for sure.
