well yesterday was the first time i ever went out on a bicycle for a ride since i was 19! mostly all on the flat, it was strange getting used to the new paddle shift gears on my bike, went out with a few friends and managed to cover 12 miles along liverpools water front you can see the route here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=A igburth+Rd%2FA561&daddr=Otterspool+Rd+to:Riverside+Dr+to:Sefton+St% 2FA5036+to:Princes+Parade&hl=en&geocode=FZF2LgMdEhbT_w%3BFf5kLg MdfDfT_w%3BFWhwLgMdRb3S_w%3BFbO3LgMdo3zS_w%3BFbX7LgMdljPS_w&mra=dme &mrcr=0&mrsp=0&sz=15&dirflg=w&sll=53.375981,-2.9449 37&sspn=0.019048,0.038581&ie=UTF8&ll=53.38425,-2.957554& ;spn=0.038088,0.077162&z=14

The actual router was right along the riverside on the promenade so its only a rough idea but 12 miles is fairly accurate. I dont think thats bad for someone who's overweight and hasnt been on a push bike for donkeys! mind you as the title of the thread suggests my bum hurts hoping i can get out more often too there are some nice places to bike around merseyside and the wirral

Haha, Yeah.. i can imagine.

When i used to drive a motorbike to work everyday and the shops and general lesiure drives around n about i used to love it.

THEN i stopped driving and got on a pushbike, it felt awful.. lol.. i had sore legs where they had been rubbing on the seat with there being much less room to sit and of course, sweating and aching chronic.
It's bad enough now, sitting on an exercise bike for 2 miles every day lol.

grats on the exercise though, bet you felt nice n fresh after :)
