It's horrible not having a pc for a day lol.

So pc fucked up today, turned it on and it was all corrupt allsorts of peculiar and unforseen error boxes and alerts.

I have never even seen or heard of some of them.

Anyways after it said to chkdsk i went and did that.. which took forever on this massive hdd.After it finished the hdd decided to not work anymore - had to get a new hdd today and load new windows on.. to cut a fucking 8 hour story short - it turns out the cause of the first corruption was after downloading the new version of sony vegas from rapidshare, 2 files in there just dissapered into the system32 file system and also wiped the mbr..causing undesirable effects and file errors .

As for hdd just stopping, i think it just broke down and thats that.
Anyways managed to sort it and just loading on some proggys etc... what is annoying mainly is how inconvienent it is.. no music since all my computer was streamed to ps3 -> sound system and then you have the issues of all the passes you stored in browser and security password managers and loss of data - ewww!

Back now, first time i have really had a virus that does that sort of initial damage, remind me not to use rapidshare again lol lol.

did you remove the hdd and check the file system on another OS?
if not I suspect the hdd isn't faulty.

Or it could be a dying hdd causing the errors.
Hard drives when they start to die can do some pretty wierd things.

nah trust, it was a mbr erasing virus from the file orginally, and after fucking about with hdd and shit it just didn't work anymore.

Pain in the ass tho.
its that Chkdsk sees any old hard drive off.

Any issues i have with windows in work on some faulty machine that come in, thats what i run first,
quite a few times you just hear the drive slow down, like a wining noise getting slower.
and then a sudden stop!!
Thats the time you swallow hard and go Fuck Data!!

In the past i have left the HD for a good 24 - 48 hours and then attempted to slave it, getting enough like out of it to get SMALL documents and anything with value.
Leave bigger stuff till last, as am pretty sure it will just kill it
