are they really all that important? i read stories of you lads busting your bollocks trying to get them and honestly i cant see what the fuss is about, its like prestige on COD or maybe not, i mean prestige means nothing you can still be a crap player
im not suggesting you lot are because ive obviously played with most of you! but my mentality is i play the game if i pickup trophies thats fablon if there are easy ones to get and im bored ill try for them, but platinum, eep just too much effort :XD

Am not one to bust my balls of and Plat
the only game you may read is my and sys on Demon Souls.
And only because that game deserves to be platted.
Its fucking amazing!! massive and hard! and many 100's of man hours collecting thins to plat,
I only have 2 plats.
US Demon souls
EU Demon Souls
lol
Am not all that fussed. but you get more gameplay out of a game trying to do so.
And its a sign of relief (I can put that game down and not pick it up)
Or a sense of achievement lol

I've got 2, bad company 2 and modern warfare 2. They are a worthy acheivment for some seriously hard work.
But it's also bragging rights.

EDIT: Fuck - feel free to skip this text wall LOL...
Platinums (or trophies in general) mean different things to different people. I have pretty much always completed my games. Often several times on different difficulties And now with trophies there is a tangible, public sense of closure on a game. But that can be a double edged sword...
For instance, now I have platinum on Apache: Air Assault I don't feel inclined to play it that much which is a shame as it only took a couple of days to platinum and is a bloody good game. But on the other hand, the platinum for Mirror's Edge kept me playing long after I probably would have given up normally. So it's swings and roundabouts - some games benefit, some lose out.
But also, going for platinum (and implicitly all other trophies in a game), can show you things about the game or how to play the game that you may otherwise have missed. Like Prince of Persia - I played it through just spamming one or two combos, but after going for the all combos trophy realised the combat system was a lot deeper and more enjoyable than I gave it credit for. Similarly with Mirror's Edge, my appreciation for the parkour aspects was deepened via trophies.
My main rule for platinums is I treat it as a badge of honour for games I loved. But similarly, it annoys me all to hell when I can't platinum something I love. Like Wipeout, where I'm 2 trophies off, or Bad Company 1 where I'm 2 off. I might be considered a trophy whore, which is fair enough as I have and will whore the odd trophy I don't consider feasible in normal play or within a reasonable time frame.
But you won't catch me playing Hannah Montana or Terminator Salvation just to pad my platinum count. Similarly, I will continue to plug away at major platinums like RUSE and Sacred 2 because I love the game.
But at the end of the day, they mean nothing, and at times I curse Sony for adding them as I would be a lot more productive if they didn't appeal to my completionist side. And in some respects I feel they have changed the way I enjoy games: it seems less about playing a game for the love of it, and more about completing the game and moving on. Which is a sad thing.

With all due respect, don't confuse "hard" with "time consuming". Wipeout and Mirror's Edge are hard. Demon's Souls, Resitance 2 and a load of other games are just time consuming...
