Yes it's only a rumour.
A juicy internet rumor has developed. The respective rumor is that the Xbox 720 is due to feature an AMD fusion processor. The current Xbox 360 consoles us an IBM CPU chip called the Xenon CPU but uses an ATI (AMD) graphics card. So the thinking is that the next Xbox may well both uses an AMD owned graphics card and an AMD CPU. Match made in heaven?

So is it too early to speculate on the PS4 CPU and VGA?
Should Sony move towards intel or AMD? Or stick with the IBM Cell?
IBM have said they will not make any available to anyone except Sony, but does that include new and increased density CPU's?
Moving towards Intel or AMD should improve the accessabilty for developers, and maybe increase the number of cross platform and exclusives.

I suppose this is all junk for now, we just need to wait and see.

IMO it's not about chip speeds anymore, it's about bus speeds and fast memory access. The problem for hardware developers now is that in terms of capability, hardware is reaching a plateux. It's more about whatever else goes along with it, i.e. store, friends facilities, etc.
