Oops - forgot about YouTube. Oh well...too busy killing shit in an Apache
Another one might be worth watching: Kingdom Under Fire II
I don't know anything historically about it, but the screenshots look cool and "MMO Action Strategy RPG" gets me keen. Unless you have to fucking pay to play...

Sounds good....provides elements that are not often seen in online games such as massive, realistic medieval battles.
Exclusive - nice (if you don't count PC LOL)"...and provide the PS3 users with a unique experience that can only be found on PS3."

The hype machine is picking up steam around this, but still - all you need to say to me is "Snowblind" to get my interest (spent way to many hours on Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath). Oh, and 3 player online co-op doesn't hurt either.
Still looking good though...
Still looking good though...
When Warner Bros. first introduced Lord of the Rings: War in the North, we were told it was about the fellowship of three playable characters, Farin the dwarf, Eradin the ranger, and Andriel the elf. Turns out, that was a lie. War in the North is actually about a group of four characters. The fourth being the giant eagle, Beleram.
You don't control Beleram, but he does become a member of your party early on. In the ruins of Fornost you find the great eagle chained up and fit to be slaughtered. This is the doing of War in the North's main villain, Agandaur.
Before this gets too nerdy for some, let's cut to the chase: orcs want to keep you from freeing Beleram and you have a hankering for killing them. Once the great eagle is free, you can call on him any time you're out in the open. There is a limit to the number of summons. It's tied to finding eagle feathers as you explore. Good thing someone thought to stash eagle feathers and gold in all the chests.

Lord of the Rings: War in the North Trailer
War in the North is all about hacking and slashing. This is a game made by Snowblind, the folks who developed the ultimate hack-n-slasher, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. The combat isn't intricate or complex. Though each of the three playable characters has his or her own strengths, mostly you'll be alternating between light and heavy attacks.
Each also has a series of talents that can be developed depending on how you spend your experience points across three different skill trees. Farin is the tank of the group and can earn a shield charge and a war cry (to draw enemies towards him). Eradin is skilled at long range attacks and can use stealth to disappear from enemy sights to infiltrate their position. Andriel is the mage, with a handy "Force push" attack to knock back enemies and a staff that fires energy to fry orcs, trolls, and anything else that gets in its path. All three have access to the best special ability of all: Calling in Beleram.
As long as it's out in the open, any party member can call down Beleram for assistance. This can be a great help when facing dozens of orcs at one time. Beleram swoops in, snatches several up and tosses them aside. And against a troll, he drops right down on the big ugly and can usually take it out with a few gnarly snaps of his beak. In non-combat instances, Beleram can smash through some walls and carry you to new areas. He's pretty much the perfect party eagle.
Beleram is, for all intents, a smart bomb to be used when combat is turning sour. The fact that every player has access to him adds an interesting twist. Some people save their smart bombs for bosses. Others like to use them as quickly as they earn them. And sometimes, with three people playing, each will wait for the other to make the move and call in Beleram. You need to communicate to use Beleram effectively, otherwise it's just going to be a mess of frustration. And hey, shouldn't a fellowship be talking about this kind of stuff? Makes sense to me.
That's one big bird.
Lord of the Rings: War in the North isn't trying to break the mold and create an all new experience. It's a throwback to a type of game that isn't being made nearly enough. It looks great, runs well, and plays with the sort of addictive easiness that made Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance so good. There are loot-drops and some nice touches for Lord of the Rings fans and all that. Beleram stands out. It's kind of that fun new thing added less for tactical intrigue and more just because it's cool to have a giant eagle causing havoc in the midst of a battle.
Snowblind promises that this isn't just a combat gimmick. The great eagles play a big role in the story scarcely touched on in the Lord of the Rings books. Beleram is just one among many feathered allies assisting in the all-important battle that awaits. Here's hoping we get to call in an entire army of giant eagles at the close of War in the North.
