I've just been down to my local currys and had a look at the demo's. Nice, but not quite as good as I remember, its a LOT better.
One was a panasonic, the other a samsung, and the samsung looked better by a large margin.
But the samsung LCD LED lit had some burn in, not noticable without the glasses, but with them on it looked horrendous.
So the price:
Samsung @ £1200 for a 40" 1080p and 3D capable.
Be warned though, Samsung TV's need Samsung LCD shutter glasses, and it wont work with any other brand either, so if you but a Samsung TV, you HAVE TO BUY samsung glasses, and it's the same for the other brands too - Sony, Panasonic, Sharp and others.
The glasses are £100 a pair, but you can get 2 pair, and a bluray movie for £150.
You also need a HDMI 1.4 cable, but for the love of God, dont buy it from Curry's, the only one they sell is £100, and you can get them online for a fiver! Yep £5.00+P&P

So why do you want a 3D TV? Well, it's nothing short of spectacular, go to your local currys store and get a demo. You might notice quite a bit of flicker, but thats mostly the surrounding lights in the store.
The main reason for their desirability... Wipeout HD is patched and working, so is Motorstorm pacific rift, not sure about MV though. Pain, and more, even killzone 2 is gonna work with it. Apparently Avatar the game is jaw droppingly good. Shit game still, but it looks amazing.
Go to Currys, have a look then tell me how much you want one.

3D gamin will be a niche for a while, it still is on the pc.
3D tv.. well this will be like HD Vs SD where you will get a niche at first the more and more people start getting it and it becomes kinda mainstream.

Mainstream = more units sold - which in turn does eventually equal cheaper.
(if compared with hd market prices then and now)

BUT we'll see.. deffo won't be rushing to buy a 3d tv, certainly not just for a ps3 and not for any 3d tv/films... i hardly watch tv as it is lol.

But sounds like 3d will be the only way in the end.. HD 3D.. mhmm.

I don't think it will take off mainstream until they can do it without glasses myself. But I can't see how that's possible short of holographic projection.

It is possible now, the TV screen has to be polarised, but it's very expensive.

Now is the time to get a new HD TV,

Last time i went looking for a TV it was just as HD TV's where lunching
I recall seeing a TV for less that £150 for a 36 inch

i went back into currys the next day to get it, and noticed that all the TV's where taken off the shelf and replaced with HD TV's

i could not find a single none HD TV to buy then :-(

So i got a little more doller and got a HD TV instead but!!

Yet to see a 3D tv impress me :-( i still do need to have a look at the ones in currys etc tho,

Really? But to get a 3D image you need to display slightly different angled views to each eye - which is how the glasses work. It's kind of like interlacing, except it's across whole screens, not just scanlines. But you still need the glasses to block one of your eyes (or filter separate images for each eye) else both eyes are viewing and perceiving the same flat image.

All those, except the last one, still require glasses though... I didn't do the last one, but it looks like it will be similar to what is possibly the best example of 3D without glasses I've seen:

But it still has it's drawbacks. Assuming the tech could recognise your head so you didn't need to wear a sensor, the effect only works for one person, and only when they move their head. Could be good for games, but not for mainstream cinema.

Your last example the youtube video is like 3 years old,

This was one of the first things i done with my Wii :-)

But if you look around at head trackers, there is like billions of examples,
Its not 3D to the advertising that is made, but a small illusion of objects moving based on the position you are looking at the TV

But this again would not work with TV's or Movies.
Why.
Well the Film or TV would have to be recorded / filmed like 100 times with different camera angles

Well when i say 1000 different angles 1000 being the number of possible different positions you can look at the TV.

As what your seeing using the head tracker is a Simple program with a Movable camera, and the camera being controlled via the Blue-tooth sensor off the wii

How would you go about a Film or TV with Movable Cameras????

(The same effect is used on the Killzone 2 loading screen) "i think"
The Angle of the camera or the screen is moved based on the motion sensors in the control,

Its pretty simple, and all examples can be downloaded and i think he has them as open source,
But how you would do this in a TV i dont know

If you have a look at his channels or his website you will see an example
of a Stadium and the TV being a Frame
The Stadium being too big for the TV and as the TV is acting like a frame as you move the camera / Sensor you can see more of the image,
But the 3D effect on this is very poor

LOL mate, did you read the context of the video? I know it's old, and appreciate it, but I don't need a long explanation about it. I simply posted it as an example of the only way I can see of doing 3D without glasses...

So did anyone get a 3d tv?
I dont know a single person who did.
The lad next door works at the local currys and despite how it looks, people walk away all the time due to the price, and not forgetting a recesion.
