Nobody will be loosing out from this deal.
The customer has to have pre-odered and paid for 2 games!!
37quid for bf3 and 41 for mw3. gamestop make there money from there.
just down to the customer whether they wish to trade it in or not.
it gives people choice, it wont affect sales. How many more people will it attract though who potentially werent going to buy it (COD fanboys), knowing they get to try for a pound then still get mw3 aswell.
Win win for EA on gamesales, plus the people who do trade....ea will be making money on online passes for 2nd hand copies.

That's right and if you ran the business any different, you'd be bankrupt in weeks.
It makes perfect sense, and the bottom line is, it doesn't matter what the game is, it's just mw3 is the next big thing.

Seriously, what you are saying is that if I bought a game then brought it back got refund minus 99p, no one loses anything, apart from me losing 99p?

nope the publisher doesn't lose any money from this deal.
They already got yur cash.
If gamestop refund the cash they will re-coup all the costs in the already over priced 2nd hand market.
Those who buy this game 2nd hand will then also need to pay a pass aswell.
Maybe this is a deal where gamestop give no money to EA for the 2nd hand copy at all which means they will end up quids in.
HMV do similar deals every day.
And also you have to remember that not everyone will take this deal up, so it's not as big as u think it is.

Why not? from th epointof view of the consumer it is a win win deal.
Both games are listed £44.99 shop price unless you preorder and stuff.
They offer BF for £36.97 and MW3 for £41.97, already a good deal if you are buying both. But if you are not sure about BF and bring it back they refund you £40.98 which means you played BF3 until MW3 release for free and got MW3 for only £37.96. Bargain! So CoD kids can sample BF3 free of charge and get good deal on MW3 and those who were buying both games anyway now have a choice to get 40.98 back or not.
Gamestop will not make any profits from trying to sell those returned BF3 games as second hand as they have to be quite cheap so that when you add online pass they are still cheaper than new. Also they will not make any profit on it while they will make profit selling new games. Are they this stupid? I doubt.
I think there is something in the contract between the shop and publisher that allows them to return x amount of copies back with no strings attached, then EA is screwed as they will not get any money on the returned copies while Activision sold as many of MW3.
I'm puzzled.

Chris ytou get 40.98 back if you send back BF3, you think everyone is as rich as you are and won't bother with 40 quid?

This was my initial point, sy, the success of the offer is conditional on how well BF3 performs at the release. If it is shit and has many problems, many people will send it back because they can. Hell, you don't even need to get pissed off with the game, just not liking it will do. The thought of getting £41 quid back is a pretty fucking good stimula to send something you are not qute sure about back.

A big thing everyone is missing!!
BFBC2 fans may = 20,000 or so!!
MoH fans may = 20,000 or so!! TRUE FANS
CoD fans may = 500,000 or so!!
Why would they develop a game that. 20,000 true fans love!
When they can coup in for every market!
bf fans moh fans cod fans
Why develop a game that 20,000 are mega happy with and defo buy the game
when they can have more than triple the market
Sorry to say but if I develop something I would want to carter
for every market and cash in!
no complaining or anything is going to change
money!!
