@Dave

I have a T-Mobile G2 Touch (aka HTC Hero)

UniversalAndroot worked fine on my device

Just gone back to stock 2.1 ROM having tried FroydVillain 2.2 ROM

2x annoying bugs, emails kept downloading once I had already deleted them and camera was soooo sucky!

My new phone should be here any minute and I'm still not excited at all.
Should I be?

OMG do I feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew? Yep.
The store is useless to me because I dont have a creditcard, there are no root roms for the desire HD yet, so I have no other way of installing the apps the I want/need.

Just had a big argument with 3.
They wont accept the HTC and cancel my account, because I turned the phone on.

Told them I'll keep the phone until a court decides who is right or wrong, and I'm going to cancel my direct debit tomorrow.

What a right old mess this is...
I've just applied for and got a Pre-Pay credit card
http://www.compareprepaid.co.uk/compare-uk.html

I went for the Kalixa card.
I can pre-pay via my bank, or like I have done Click.and.Buy

So now I've just got off the phone to 3 to explain that everything is cool again.

Same as the Apple store bud.

but on another note, you can install Unsigned applications
(Just transfer them to your Memory card by connecting phone up to computer and enabling USB Mode)

Go to Settings / Applications
and put a Tick on Unknown Sources

You can install any APK now :)

You can download any App @ any cost, you have 15 minutes to delete it off your phone if you dont like it.
If its in 15 minutes you are refunded,
Anything after that you have bought it.

i still visit http://www.warez-bb.org and download any apps i want for it (Cracked)
when i like it ill buy it.
Sometimes i find 15 minutes is not enough to get a feel for anything, and some have no demos

you say there is no Rooted ROMs?

There is no real rooted rom... if that makes sense?

You have ROMS and Official ROMS.
i.e.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=917271

That is a 2.3 Gingerbread ROM
All you need to do prior is to Root your phone.
To do this you will need Clockwork Recovery

Clockwork recovery is like a Recovery Console that lets you flash files on your phone.

A couple of People / Roms i would recommend (BY THERE NAME AND PAST WORK ON THE FORUM)
Keep in mind i have not tested none of these roms as i dont have the phone yet.

LeeDroid:

CyanogenMod-6.1

For Clockwork Recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842819

Dont worry about what you may think of Bricking your phone.
As there is a built in recovery into the phone before the OS Boots.
Chances are very slim

When you get your first ROM flashed and working, it will be very easy from that point.
i used to change ROM 2 / 3 times aday.
Untill i settled.

No need for a PC when your all Setup, Just aslong as you keep your ROMS on your memory card

Just been tied up.
Anything ask it, I have been there and done it with android. Your phone is mine just slightly upgraded. So it's easy enough to explain

Av spent along enough on XDA site to know what's what. Where and how.
And if I don't know it I know where to find it quick than u an google.
Plus it will make more sense to me than u.
Then I can break it down.

I hate trying to search for shit I have no idea on.
How u know if it on the right track.

Anyway!!!!!!!!!!!
Post ur question. Anything I'll help.
If u need a urgent reply email or txt us (if u ain't fooked ur fone too much)
An I'll respond

Been there done it. Dont pull ur hair out when someone has done it for u lol

Ok, firstly the most important app in the world:
Streaming media.

DHD supports DLNA, but I think it's OUTGOING only. Is there a DLNA server that streams TOO the DHD?

Thanks Dave.

I've finally found a media server/transcoder/app to work on my HTC Desire HD, and it works brilliantly... best yet - IT'S FREE

Its called subsonic
It streams music and video - it wont stream images though.
It's free
It transodes video at a bit rate YOU want
I've tried HD video too and it just works brilliantly, and I dont have a high end PC either!
You can choose a single track/movie, and then you can queue others to play too, then if you like your playlist, you can save it to the desktop.
It works locally and remotely via 3G (a massive dataplan is required for a lot of streaming).

You can donate to the project, I did, and I now have a licence key and a subdomain on their webserver. This makes it much easier to access your content while out and about.

Erm Winamp used to have a Addon to do all that.
And you could reverse it, Use the Phone as a Remote to select Playlists tracks etc and it change on the PS3

you mean winamp remote?

If so, it's garbage, slow, and it doesn't transcode.

I was reading this thread the yesterday and it spurred me on to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 Froyo.

It all went well and I like everything about the quickness, new features and OS tweaks. But whilst upgrading I had to wipe everything on the phone. Cache, data and do a factory reset.
All right fair enough, so in preparation I backed up the phone to my SD card in ClockworkMod Recovery.

Now I'm just wondering how do I get my apps, messages and data back on my phone, without royally f*cking it up? Or eradicating the new 2.2 OS I just put on it.

I recon it's just pretty simple (I just wanted to check with you guys first :D ). Just go into Clockwork Recovery select the folder 'clockworkmod' and then choose the different backup options. My choices are:

boot.img - 4.5MB
chache.img - 7.9MB
data.img - 192.2MB
nandroid.md5 - 222KB
recovery.img - 4.5MB
system.img -111.9MB

Hopefully I make sense. I'm still fairly new to this, but I'm learning and finding it enjoyable. :)

Cheers fellas
