My best mate is a NFS freak.. but dislikes the new one!
I was shocked, he's 30 and has posters from the 90's on nfs plastered all over his wall.

He said it was "predictable" - whatever that means to these car racing fans lol.

He said the film sounds good, i was like a film wtf?

Then i've got mates who play it lots, i think it's just one of them games, you get it or you don't.

I enjoyed what time i played on them though.

Yeah, I gather hardcore NFS fans are bitching about it, in the same way that hardcore XCOM fans are bitching about that... Haters gonna hate.

I need to spend more time with it before I properly hate on it. Just as soon as I grow bored of XCOM.

Then do the Dark Souls DLC.

And preferably before I go back to Borderlands 2 lol.

Nope sorry - this game is crap. I wanted to love it. I still do. I will no doubt play it again to see if it's actually not that crap, but no doubt I will come to the same conclusion next time I play it.

The primary reason I hate it, and the one thing I can't learn to live with, are the cops. Why? Why would you do this to what was a perfectly good game? If I wanted to play with cops, I would have joined a Burnout lobby full of 12 year olds smashing each other up.

The other problem with the police is its incredibly easy to not get busted, but fucking impossible to lose your wanted level. So you drive around for upwards of 15 minutes with these cocks ramming you every two seconds. I play a racing game to race - not reverse away from a wall 6 times a minute.

Other gripes that contribute to the bollocks:

1) Everything is grey. Burnout had a richer palette (if memory serves). Roads where grey, grass was green and rocks were brown. In NFS roads are grey, rocks are grey, walls are grey, everything is fucking grey. Even the NPC traffic. When I'm moving fast, trying to differentiate the grey of the road from the grey of the vertical wall I can smash into is not easy. Oh yeah - and blooming everything beyond recognition doesn't help either.

2) Dynamic weather. This feeds into the grey problem. I only ever seem to have it night time and/or raining. There is a little bit of sunshine here and there, but I seriously believe someone at Criterion actively wanted to theme this game grey.

3) Low resolution? It doesn't feel as crisp to me somehow...? It looks more like Midnight Club than Burnout Paradise. It could just be dodgy memories though. Or it could just be all the rubbish the game likes to spew at your screen. Because that's what you need when you're trying to discern a grey wall from the grey road while avoiding a grey car at 200mph.

4) The rubber banding... Jesus I hate fucking rubber banding from the start, but I can live with it if it's not ridiculous. It was good in Grid and Midnight Club: good driving bought you a lead. Not so in this bollocks... Boost like a madman and ninja your way through packed junctions, but overskid and clip a wall and watch as you drop instantly to 7th. Despite just scoring takedowns on half the pack. On an "easy" race. Get a new trick developers - rubber banding is from the days when games had to fit into 64k.

The driving is good, as you'd expect from Criterion. With a great balance between sim and arcade. They just ruined those excellent gameplay foundations with a load of retarded design decisions. Namely police, but that just makes me sit up and take note of everything else that's wrong as well.

All in all, I'm not having fun with it. I doesn't make me want to play it, I put it on because I feel I should. That just isn't doing it right IMO.

Here's a brilliant look back at the NFS Franchise, but focus is on NFS Underground 2. A brilliant game too.
