You have downloaded a server edition,
So you need to install a GNOME or KDE Desktop interface.
Or if not, you may just need to login using root as username and password
and starting
xstart or startx
Backtrack is what you need Daz, dont mess around with anything else.
Its a LIVE CD, as its for Security testing, there is versions for VMWare,
so you should be set to go.
All the software is preloaded, Its packed with Penetration tests, windows exploits, WEP cracking, Password recovery, Bruite force, network exploits. tunnelling, the list goes on and on and on
you just need to google and play.
Youtube videos are your best, and if you want any help it will be based on Backtrack, its the starting ground for a Novice to a Expert.
When it starts it will ask you to login in Console.
Username: root
Password: toor
Next command to type is:
startx
And away you go
