I think they need to do more to appease people, giving Wipeout HD wont be enough, too many people have it already, no, it'll have to be something brand new.

Points taken:
• Everyone gets PS+ for one month (not worth shit in the EU anyway)
• Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation®3 (PS3) and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) systems
• This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games
• Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers
• Access to account management and password reset
• Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo
• PlayStation®Home
• Friends List
• Chat Functionality

In addition to existing security, sony have implemented some changes:
• Added automated software monitoring and configuration management to help defend against new attacks
• Enhanced levels of data protection and encryption
• Enhanced ability to detect software intrusions within the network, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns
• Implementation of additional firewalls
• A new update for the PS3, with each user account being locked to each machine. (will this mean the end of gameshare?)

Bonus items:
• Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
• All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
• Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Dude, not having Wipeout HD is a crime against your PS3 of equal magnitude to this hack...

So they installed AVG, turned Windows firewall back on and changed the database filename extension from .txt?

I wonder how many weeks it'll be before they fix the enivitable problems of trying to access PSN through a firewall? Or if the firewall is pissing in the wind because PS3 units have a tunnel through it...

As far as I read it, the update means you can only change the account password from the PS3 you registered it with, else you need email confirmation.

That exactly what I thought when I read that this morning too.

More bad news from Sony. They've now had to shut down the PC server side of Sony Online Entertainment:

http://maintenance.station.sony.com/
Dear valued SOE Customers,

We have had to take the SOE service down temporarily. In the course of our investigation into the intrusion into our systems we have discovered an issue that warrants enough concern for us to take the service down effective immediately. We will provide an update later today (Monday).
2 weeks to find that PC users details have probably been compromised too is just excessive, who's doing the investigation Inspector Clouseau?

Was the Sony hack an inside job?

With 200+layoffs from the online departments just days BEFORE the massive hack, the sights of the Feds could well be on one of these employees.

It's quite a good theory when you spend the time to read it.

It's very plausible, but highly unlikely.

It depends on whether or not someone got pissed off.
It might not be an ex-employee that did the hack, but it might well be an ex-employee who told a few select people HOW.

But the timing couldn't look good, so it's either annonymous or someone who's just been sacked???

Not discounting someone from Russia or China.
