Swapping from PS3 to Xbox 360

Ok, first things first. Don't worry, I'm not about to move to the Darkside just yet.
I've been looking at the pro's and con's of swapping, and so far, I've found that as PS3 users, we've been getting shafted, BIGTIME.
We have superior hardware, there's no doubt about that.
We have, wireless network, blu-ray drive, the awsome cell processor, hard drive by defualt and easily upgraded too. We have dualshocks - now as standard, and bluetooth.
But we pay for it too, as staggering £300+ or as of yesterday £250 from asda with 2 games.
We also have free access to PSN, unlike the xbox gold at £40 per year.

Pro's for swapping
Xbox 360 is cheap.
£129 for the arcade - No HDD, no headset
£170 for the Pro - 60gig Hdd + Headset
£229 for the Elite - 120gig HDD + 12months gold membership

Games
I'm not sure what platform the games are written in, but it seems to be a similar one to windows/directx, why is this important? Because it means that game creators have an immediate head start over Sony, they dont need to re-learn how to code for it. This also means that there is a shit load of games, a hell of a lot more than the ps3. But i'm sure there's some dud's in there too. But dont forget, we have some turkey's.
Exclusives. Yep, the 360 has a shed load, but so do we, just not as many. But we also generally have to wait for dual releases, as MS tend to get them a week or two earlier, they after all have deeper pockets.

Backwards compatability.
Any of the above 360's will get you access to an instant library of Xbox originals, with a huge amount of games to choose from...
Sorry about this, it's a big list. So big that I'll tack it onto the next post.
Also, they ARE UPSCALED. AntiAilias is also fixed. So over all, XBOX games look amazing (apparently) on the 360.
Plus they have the incredible 1 vs 100, where you can actually compete (in a general knowledge quiz), against others and win actual prizes. Prizes include free Xbox Market place games, Microsoft points, and other actual physical prizes too, and best yet... it's free. It runs everyday except Sunday from 19:30 to 21:30. So far, I've been in the top 10 evertime.

XBL.
It's free for silver usage, which is basically access to the store and comms, both audio and video.
gold is as mentioned £40 per year. But for that you can play online, and whats even better, talk to others online, either as squad chat and party chat, party chat means you can talk to friends who are'nt playing the same game as you!!! And if I believe what I'm told, it's amazing, so much better than the PS3's version of ingame chat, and PSN chat.
I can tell you that talking to family in Canada was superb.

Hardware Failure:
This is a big issue for both systems, but I'm sure we all know that the 360 is a lot less reliable in the end, BUT Microsoft do cover theirs for 3 years, and dont charge you £150 to replace it.

Movies:
The XBL features an impressive list of HD movies to rent, and possibly buy.
Not available at all on PSN, unless you live in Japan or America.

I'm sure there's a lot more info I can add, but right now, I'll leave it there. I wont go into hacking the xbox as we all know it can be done.

Nice Post Daz,
You may of helped me a little settling my mined On one Console or maybe having both..

You missed one important thing tho,
Xbox 360 is Hackable, to play Backups,

And this can be done with a little carefull reading and spending about £5 on a Drive Adaptor to plug it into your PC,
Flash it with Firmware, and your done, No Solder, not Cutting not messing,


To be perfectly honest as much as i love the PS3,
The Xbox does seem to be out on top,

Paying £40 (It is cheaper i paid for a 12 month membership for a mate for like £22 for 12 months)

But its the service you pay for and that i dont mind,

FFS i would not mined if PSN service we got at the moment was free and you could upgrade to Pro version for Better comms and go forth

I am realy realy tempted, and why should i not, can anyone Answer that...

360 brakes its repairable
PS3 brakes your kinda foooked

Graphics are much the same as there is no way with all that BEEF PS3 has as it hit its top end,

the only thing that puts me off is the HD Signal, but i know the 360 handles a Upscale to be a close match to it

Dear David,
I did mention that the xbox can be hacked, I just did'nt want to go delving into somthing I knew very little about, all I know is that it's just a matter of flashing the DVD rom.
I'm also pretty sure that Astro (Godric) will point out some mistakes, but that said, I think it's pretty accurate and unbiased.

One thing I forgot to mention, if you open the 360, you can prevent RRoD by adding some thermal paste to the heatsink, and possibly a fan. I dont know how reliable this info is as it's just hearsay.
You have to have an out of warranty 360 though.

What you say makes sense, but I will never willingly put money into the pockets of those who basically amount to commercial thieves.

Microsoft was built on ideas stolen from various sources (Apple being one), and they undermined the current generation of hardware by basically putting a PC in a box instead of doing some proper R&D like Sony did.

At least Sony made their name respectably: by producing quality goods. Not by commercial deviance.

Plus, I don't have room in the lounge for both consoles

I like the Playstation 3.

I like the fact that its an elite group of gamers not just jocks off the street. (although sometimes you do have to laugh at some of the swear words that you hear - and the fucking kids who manage to get on) - but as a whole gaming experience is a much more polished, enjoyable and professional one.

Hacking.
I had a PS1 years back and had maybe 15 games in total. All original. Not one copy. I loved all my games and played them all to death. One of my friends had a hacked PS1. He had EVERY game available. He played them all for 10 mins each before getting bored and trying a different one. Whats the fucking point? I'd rather get my monies worth and enjoy what I have than rush through 10 mins of a game and move on. I'd never have time for starters.

Controller.
Hate the xbox one - maybe cos I've only ever used the Sony ones and I've been tainted. The whole thing just feels twisted to one side, so I can never shoot straight (insert joke here) or run straight etc.

Graphics.
OK, the graphics are almost identical, and maybe the interactive graphics when you play an audio track is better on the xbox (if you like that kind of thing - which I do!) - but that's not enough for me to jump ship.

Price.
ok, they win again. But if the PS3 was as cheap you'd get riff raff playing moe than not and you'd never be able to find a decent server, for example, when playing squad games. Noob noob noob.


I am allowed to say all these things cos our new lodger has an Xbox so for the next few months I- er sorry,. WE have both in the house. Cant say I'll be using the xbox for anything other than the music ravey graphics thingy.

Thats the new iTunes Visualiser. Beautiful - many nights of mine sat wasted in front of screen pressing buttons to the beat, making it change to the beat.

PS3 is ok - but more relaxing than anything.

Xbox - is fucking mental!! haha.
