EA are looking into making future Battlefield and MoH games subscription based.
Speaking to
VentureBeat, EA’s Patrick Soderlund has highlighted that he’s “looking at” subscription models for upcoming games.
“I think it’s fair to say that we’re looking at that,” said Soderlund when asked if they’ll eventually get to a subscription type of model for future shooters.
Given the current state of Battlefield 3 I'd say this is a very risky move. Medal of Honor also died off pretty quickly too and if things are no better in the next game this could be another bad idea, like moving hit detection from the server to client.
Factor in the price of the game, no doubt around £40 then charging people to play is a cheeky move in good times let alone a recession.
