Humax HD-FOX T2 FAQ

Q: Can I still view standard definition TV with my Humax HD FOX T2?
A: Yes you can, it has support for both HD and SD TV programmes. Currently the available HD channels are BBC1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD, and Channel 4HD. These are NOT available in all areas. Click the link below to find out of you can receive HD freeview.

Q: I've hard that I can use it as a PVR, is that true?
A: Yes it's true, a recent update enable the PVR function for the HD-FOX T2, but you will need an external hard disk drive to store the progammes and to pause live TV. The set top box (STB) only has one TV tuner built in, so you can only watch and record one programme.

Q: Can I do series link with the PVR?
A: Yes you can, the onscreen prompt will ask you if you want to record one programme or all the future programmes too. You can also press the GUIDE button, then the green button (Find) and search by programme types, and programme names too. The programme types are:
Children, Movies, News and Factual, Entertainment, Education, Lifestyle, Drama, and Unclassified

Q: Will there be support for IPTV services?
A: Right now no. But it's comming. So far the official release date is January 2011. The update will add Sky Player and the BBC iPlayer. The BBC iPlayer will also support HD programmes. There are rumours of other possible subscription based IPTV options. You can view the test portal now though:

Q: Can I play video, music and photo's on my Humax HD-FOX T2 from the USB port?
A: Yes, and you are not limited by the USB port either, you can also do it via a PC on the network port using a DLNA server. By plugging in a USB drive, you have access to all the media stored on there. But if you install a DLNA server on your PC, you have access to all the media stored on there too. Currently there are 2 media servers that the STB works with: TVsersity, and Windows Media Player. PS3 Media server causes the Humax STB to crash and reboot.

Q: I've installed a USB hard disk, but I cannot record, whats going on?
A: In the setup menu there is an option to format the hard drive, you will need to do this before the STB can use it for recording. Make sure there is nothing on the hard drive that you cannot loose, formatting wipes the hard drive completely clean.

Q: When I turn the Humax HD-FOX T2 off, I no longer get a signal for analogue or digital broadcasts on my TV. Can I fix this.
A: Yes, when you turn off the STB it goes into a Low Power Standby and even cuts off power to the loop through antenna cable. To leave this powered, go into the settings menu and turn off the low power options.

Q: Can I copy the recorded programmes to my desktop PC or Laptop?
A: Yes you can, but sadly the files are encrypted and you can ONLY view them on your own Humax STD. It is a good way of keeping the programmes safe though, and helping to free up space on the STB hard drive.

Q: Can I plug into the USB port more than one hard drive?
A: Yes you can, I've used a USB hub and my Humax HD-FOX T2 can see ALL the hard drives and memory sticks I have in the USB hub. So far I've managed 4 hard drives and one memory stick all at the same time.
This is also a great way to watch, view and listen to media that might otherwise fail if you use a DLNA server.

Q: I occasionally get a message saying that there is no HD broadcast in my area right now. Please view channel BBC 101/1 to view this programme. What does 101/1 mean?
a: 101/1 is not as complicated as you might think, it means 101 for cable and satellite, and 1 for freview. I'm not sure why a certain programme is not being broadcast in HD, maybe its because it's not HD and has'nt been upscaled ready for broadcast. Either way, it's only available in SD and you need to go to channel 101 or 1.

Q. Can I record one HD channel and watch another?
A. Yes you can, but you can ONLY record HD and watch HD.
How it's done with one tuner I don't know, maybe it's voodoo.
Or maybe it's because the HD channels are all on the same MUX.

If you enter your postcode you can find other SD channels that are on the same mux, so in theory you can do the same with SD channels too.
