Recently a woman crashed through the windows of my local Morrison supermarket and into the restaurant, no one got hurt beyond bruises. She was drivng an automatic Merc, hit the wrong pedal and you know the rest.
I once saw a woman in a fiesta parked in a cliff top parking spot, revving the living shit out of it and inching forward, all the foot had to do was slip off the clutch and she's be gone.
Last week I was walking the dog and an old guy was trying to park his fiesta, and he couldn't, he gave up on the spot has was after and tried a different spot further up. No big deal right? Actually it is a big deal, I could have parked an artic in either of those spaces, when he did eventually park, he was 2 feet away from the kerb. This week I saw the same guy trying to get through the snow, like the woman above, revving the nuts off the car and going nowhere.

Dont get me wrong, I've nothing against OAP's, and statistically they are supposed to be the safest drivers around, but my mom burns the sunday roast regularly, she's easily distracted, my dad was a good driver, but sometimes he really wasn't watching what he was doing. I've seen old people driving at 20mph in 40 zones and people behind them (me included) getting seriously mad and doing death defying overtaking.
I just think that once you reach a certain age or mental agility, driving becomes dangerous for them and everyone else around.

So should old people be allowed to drive?

Options:
1. put them on probabtion past a certain age
2. make them retake their test every few years
3. let professionals (doctors) make the decision, ie, heart problems, mental problems, and their licence is removed
4. once you hit 70, it's the bus for you

I was doing 60 on a main road once, past one of those laybys that have a tea place in. There were this old couple sat waiting to pull out. The guy (driving) was looking my way and we made eye contact. Then the fucker just pulled out when I was about 50 metres away.

I had to swerve around him - if there had been oncoming traffic it would have been nasty. Fucking idiot.

It would be harsh to blanket ban them - especially as public transport is probably less friendly as you get older. But they should definitely be tested more, probably on a yearly basis. They may statistically be safer, but slow drivers do cause more accidents because people overtake.

No they shouldn't.
I have seen grannys travelling 20mph on a 50mph road, causing lines of traffic.

Or they fanny about at roundabouts giving way to everyone, again causing delays for other motorists.

I have seen them trying to park aswell into a normal car space at a sainsburys carpark, it took them about 10minutes to get into the space.

Sitting at lights, on green arrow to go left, horns beeping at them..but they can't hear - because they are deaf!

Old people with heart conditions shouldn't drive AT ALL.
Not only do they pose risks to themselves but other drivers aswell, if they have a black out or a heart attack - it won't end well.
Eyesight test should be a standard test after certain ages because they sure won't have the same eyesight they did in 1928!

many other factors why these people should use buses, they also get free travel after certain age.. use it.

At the age of 65 i think motorists in general should take some sort of refresh course, times change but they don't.
At 65 you are gettin' on abit and yeah some people are fit at 65, but some are not.. there should be some sort of test for driving after retirement.
