Re: CentOS End Of Life
This was for the company I work for, needs the direct connection for max speed. But 100% uptime as it hosts multiple API's giving a real-time figure across branches
I did a pre check (dummy run on the data migration)
Server to server transferring 875GB of data (uncompressed too)
It took about 10 minutes max, I couldn't see the transfer speed, but if I where to do the maths I think that's ...

Re: CentOS End Of Life
Finally starting to catch up with life.
Main task was the dedicated server. Got a new server for the same price (Near Enough) Man the specs have shot through the roof, because i moved away from Intel and went to AMD instead.
For the same price (Give or take £10/20)
Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1270 v6 @ 3.80GHz (8 core(s))
32GB Ram
1T SSD (X2 for raid)
New Server
AMD Ryzen 9 PRO 3900 12-Core ...

Re: The Official Dungeon Defenders Thread
Yer have to agree the first was a gem of a game, but the problem when you land on a gem and want to make a new release with no new content.
I always have to look at SUpercell as a good example, mobile gaming company and very successful on there free to play games.
Each of of there games is unique in there own style, and personally i find them enjoyable to play.
They have never released a game ...

Re: Prepare for a hike in fuel prices
Yup, i remember filling up in the Covid lockdown, am sure it was like 92p per litre,
Now its £1.42 (It might of even been cheaper than 92, but memory aint that good)
Thats a rise of like 64% / 65%

Re: Linux VM questions
Sorry been abit quiet, had a rough time with work an been abit down in the dumps.
A long story but an annual review turned into a slander match in an attempt to put me down to justify a 600 pay rise (not had any rise in 4 years)
Most development I do is in my own time an I never claim back overtime or time off. Try an help the company grow an push forward.
So they are really not in my good ...

Re: Linux VM questions
Kali is Debian, (Ubuntu etc)
Arch is its own distribution, it is not based on anything, Denbian, RedHat nothing it is its own distribution
Arch has a Repo you can install making it BlackArch that gives it all the tools Kali has to offer.

Re: Linux VM questions
Arch linux aint a hacking OS, or it is as much as Debian.
Arch Linux is a bare Shell.
Your OS will consist of Kernel, some very minimal operating system files and shell access.
Its then down to you to install what packages you want.
Imagine windows 10 with nothing, No desktop interface, no applications no nothing. Just CMD access.
And with CMD you install what you want, Desktop Interface ...

I'll respond properly in work tomorrow, but here is a useful
Guide about VM on Linux

I am curious why you went down this route though, for your requirements (Am guessing anyway)
Hyper-V would of worked a charm for you if you have a decent windows PC.

Re: Virgin Media 1Gbit lines
I don't see why the day to day user would require anything more than 10% to upload, unless you are sharing illegal content / movies etc
then i don't see how a normal user could exceed this.
Even if you had an offsite backup, yours downloading it it and not uploading.
Your uploading would be done overnight / triggle upload or incremental anyway.
Unless you have a big ass 4k Porn Collection you ...

Re: Virgin Media 1Gbit lines
So typically your Download speed would be: 800Mbps
Upload Speed would be: 80Mbps
(Typically your Upload speed will always be 10% of your download speed)
While you may have a faster Download stream, you will never get the upload stream of the T connection.
For example my server will average at around 500Mbps (So for you that is 62.5MB)
My Upload stream though will actually peak at around ...
