Xbox Series X Complaint

I've just got my very first console (in decades) that doesn't come with a TOSLINK (fibre optical digital audio output) or a coaxial digital output.
The only option available is HDMI audio.
In what parallel universe does everyone who owns the a console also have a home theatre receiver? Not this one, that's for sure.
I honestly can't believe that in this day and age that a company like Microsoft wont spend a few pennies to add a TOSLINK output.
To get a HDMI compatible receiver I'd have to spend roughly £300-£400 on the receiver itself, but I'd also need the speakers, so add at least another £200-£300. Also my monitor (that's right, monitor, I'm not using a TV) doesn't have ARC (audio return control), a way to output HDMI audio to a receiver. So that means buying a new TV as monitors rarely have ARC. So that's another £600+
At the cheapest price point that's an extra £1,100 I'd have to spend. All to save Microsoft a few pennies. The final bill could easily come to £1,500 if I don't buy the cheapest, nastiest gear.
I got the Series X last Friday, it's now Tuesday. It's fair to say the novelty has worn off already.
I knew this going in, and I wondered if I could do it for free, well by free I mean use hardware I already own. I have a USB soundcard with TOSLINK, and no surprise to anyone, the XBOX doesn't support it. I also have a HDMI audio splitter, but it's old and only supports 1080P. So no 4K HDR for me. But yes it works, I can hear 5.1 audio through my Logitec Z906 system.
I've ordered a £25 4k HDR @60hz splitter from Amazon. Now £25 is no big deal, but it means yet another box, another HDMI cable and another USB cable to power the splitter.
Microsoft being cheap has really soured the relationship, and it was a new relationship too.
