Insidious (2010) ⭐ 6.8 | Horror, Mystery, Thriller
1h 43m | PG-13
I like it, it's a cross between
Poltergeist and
Paranormal Activity, while some people might not like Paranormal activity, I think it's great, and this combination works very well together.
It did initially take 2 attempts to watch this film, and I wish I'd have been able to watch it in one sitting, but amazingly it still worked. It's definitely a fresh take on the "haunted house" theme and worth a look.
Poltergeist trivia:
Heather O'Rourke, who played the little girl Carol-Anne, and Dominique Dunne, who played the teenage daughter, are buried in the same cemetery: Westwood Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Dunne was strangled into brain-death by her boyfriend in 1982, the year of the film's release. Six years later, O'Rourke died of intestinal stenosis.

Poltergeist (1982) ⭐ 7.3 | Horror, Thriller
1h 54m | PG

Paranormal Activity (2007) ⭐ 6.3 | Horror, Mystery
1h 26m | R

Limitless (2011) ⭐ 7.4 | Sci-Fi, Thriller
1h 45m | PG-13
A writer discovers a top-secret drug which bestows him with super human abilities.
Now dont go thinking this is a superman type movies, it's not.
The drug of choice is called NZT, and it doesn't help you to fly or get high, it makes you intelligent, so intelligent you make Einstein look like a 2year old just learning to speak.
Now personally for me, this would be THE ULTIMATE high, nothing could come close. Imagine being able to speak a foreign language, any language, and within a day?
Or compute maths so you could make millions on the stock exchange, or just win virtually every hand of poker.
This movie is about a drug that makes it possible and it's a belter.
Some new additions to the hit list:
Transformers 1 and 2. Nuff said, great movies. Great to re-watch.

Transformers (2007) ⭐ 7.0 | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
2h 24m | PG-13

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009) ⭐ 6.0 | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi
2h 29m | PG-13
Looking forward to seeing the third... maybe next week, might take in the final Harry Potter too.
The Quiet Earth:
Very old, Australian, but pretty damned good though, and it's just had a blu-ray release.

The Quiet Earth (1985) ⭐ 6.7 | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
1h 31m | R
Take me Home Tonight:
Watched it last night, great film and great 80's soundtrack too.
Worth 90 minutes of anyone's time.

Take Me Home Tonight (2011) ⭐ 6.3 | Comedy, Drama, Romance
1h 37m | R
Knowing:
Once you know the plot it's a bit less interesting 2nd time around, but the special effects are amazing.
Still a good Nicolas Cage film, and the lovely rose Byrne too! Hubbahubba.

Knowing (2009) ⭐ 6.2 | Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi
2h 1m | PG-13
A collection of old and new movies.
Starting with:
Once upon a time in the west.
Directed by Sergio Leone, he made some great westerns, and this is supposed to be his best, and it's good no doubt about that.

Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) ⭐ 8.5 | Western
2h 46m | PG-13
Red Planet:
Not the best movie in this topic, but still good entertainment for a first viewing, and if you've not seen in it in a long time.

Red Planet (2000) ⭐ 5.7 | Action, Sci-Fi, Thriller
1h 46m | PG-13
Very bad things:
I haven't seen this is years, and while it's not quite as good as when I first saw it, it's still funny, and Christian Slater is just so good at being bad.

Very Bad Things (1998) ⭐ 6.3 | Comedy, Crime, Thriller
1h 40m | R
Moon:
Sam Rockwell plays several clones of himself, brilliant idea and well executed.

Moon (2009) ⭐ 7.8 | Drama, Mystery, Sci-Fi
1h 37m | R
GasHole:
Asks the question of why we dont have cars capable of 100mpg or even 1000mpg. Places the blame squarely on the oil cartels.
Good documentary with some fascinating archive footage and news clippings of a 5ton car that does 100mpg in the 50's.

GasHole (2010) ⭐ 6.8 | Documentary
1h 41m | Not Rated
Finally, one of my all time favourite movies...
Dog Soldiers:
A squad of british soldiers play wargames with a squad of special unit, only trouble is... werewolves intervene.

Dog Soldiers (2002) ⭐ 6.8 | Action, Horror, Thriller
1h 45m | R
Favourite line, one of the soldiers is about to be killed and eaten, and he turns to a werewolf and says: "I hope I give you the shits".
